Re: NFL News and Notes for August 2017!!!

Hopefully Jordan Reed will be ready to go at the start of the regular season.........

Redskins left tackle Trent Williams said he's been impressed with rookie defensive lineman Jonathan Allen. "He's really explosive off the rock. He learns quick. There are a couple moves I do and it would take defenders a few times to catch on. With him, it only works once and you have to [change] up."

“He doesn’t speak a lot,” Redskins coach Jay Gruden said of Allen. “He’s a good guy, obviously. Very strong, very strong, and wants to work, which is good. He’s put on a lot of muscle mass already in the short time that he’s been here, we feel like, and he’s going to get stronger and stronger. I like his work ethic; I like the way he learns and the way he works.”

Terrelle Pryor continues to impress---

Tuesday, he showed just how tough he can be to cover in the end zone. During a full-team drill in the red zone, Pryor made a one-handed catch over corner Dashaun Phillips for a touchdown. Quarterback Colt McCoy stepped back, and lofted a pass to the corner. As the crowd cheered, Pryor spun the ball on the ground then flashed a muscle pose while smiling.

Colt McCoy just executed a crisp two-minute drive vs. the second defense. He'd hit his top step and the ball was coming out --that's what happened on a seam pass to Vernon Davis for a TD.   GO COLT! Woman Very Happy

In other NFL NEWS: Fans bought more Tom Brady merchandise than any other player from March to May, according to numbers released Tuesday by the NFL Players Inc., the licensing and marketing arm of the NFL Players Association.

It marks the ninth time in the last 13 quarters that the New England Patriots quarterback has finished in the top three.

Brady had the most popular Fathead and led in drinkware, T-shirts, socks and pet apparel.

Re: NFL News and Notes for August 2017!!!

Tom Brady turns 40 tomorrow, August 3!

Read an interesting article about his strict diet, etc. - he has his own food line out now. He shuns most meat, doesn't drink alcohol much if any, and drinks three glasses of water for every cup of coffee (or anything containing caffeine.) And Gronkowski is trying Tom's diet, with Tom cooking for him! But Gronk says he can't give up drinking, so Tom said OK, but has him drink the three glasses of water for each beer, etc.!

Whatever Brady is doing it seems to be working, lol!

Re: NFL News and Notes for August 2017!!!

We've got a game tonight! Both teams will largely bench the starters and we'll see guys we won't even know exist for much of the game, but it's a start.

The big thing to watch tonight will be the Cardinals and their play. From the first preseason game last year, they looked "off." If they come out flat, making dumb mistakes, not playing with a lot of emotion, it could be a very bad sign for them and their fans for this coming season. There was just something wrong with that whole team last year. Maybe it was the hangover from almost reaching the Super Bowl, maybe they took it for granted that they'd be good, but last year's Cardinal team just never looked right.

On the Cowboy side those defensive backs will be something to watch. Rod Marinelli (the Cowboys defensive coordinator) will be trying to protect them as much as possible and keep things simple, but replacing most of the back side of the defense in one year is not generally a good idea. With three starting defensive linemen suspended for at least the first two games, those guys will likely have to stay in coverage quite a while as opposing quarterbacks will have all day in the pocket. If the Dallas DB's can match up okay with the Cards receivers, it will be a good sign for Dallas. If the DB's look lost and confused, it'll be a bad sign.

The first preseason game doesn't always tell us a lot, but you can get clues. Last year the Cards just never looked right. We'll get our first look at that revamped Dallas secondary tonight to get some idea of how they're coming along. These games don't really matter, but if the Cards come out flat, or those DB's of the Cowboys look lost, it won't be a good sign for the fans of those teams.

I'm a bit excited because the Cardinals are supposed to play San Antonio's own, Trevor Knight at QB in the second half of tonight's game, he signed with the Cards as a free agent, and has impressed the coaches and he has a tough row to hoe in beating out Gabbert to grab the #3 QB spot and make the roster........but it's nice to see a local guy get a chance and everyone here will be cheering him on..   We've had a few SA players get to play in the NFL.(hs football is worshipped here)_....one of the most notable was Priest Holmes of the Ravens and Chiefs, he played at my HS alma mater, GO RAMS! Woman Very Happy   Knight played at one of the newer HS, Regan.............

Uh oh! Ryan Tannehill left Dolphins practice with a no contact leg injury. That's typically either an ACL or Achilles, either of which would end his season. That may get Kaepernick another phone call. Tannehill is coming back from a torn ACL and is wearing a brace on his left knee.

Lane Johnson, the Eagles right offensive tackle, promised free beer for all Eagles fans on him if the Eagles win the Super Bowl. Luckily for him the folks at Bud Light have now agreed to pick up the tab.
