Two weeks to the draft! Whoo hoo! It's coming fast!

The Cowboys are openly talking about moving up. How far and at what cost? The Eagles spent an extra third-round pick last year to hop up two slots from twelve to ten last year. The Cowboys at 24 have a value of 740 points. If they're looking to move up to the Jets' second pick at ten (1300 points, acquired from the Seahawks) then there's a 560 difference in point value they'd have to make up. That would pretty much be their second (340 points) and third-round picks (150 points) and a bit more. That's kind of a lot to give up. If they're looking to move up to 13 for Houston's second first-round pick (I'm not sure Houston would trade with Dallas, but we'll see) then the points for 13 are 1150. There would be a difference of 410 points which would be a bit more doable.

Could we see another Philly/Dallas trade with the Eagles moving back from 18 to 24? Possibly. There's a 160-point difference in value between those two slots. Dallas would have to send back at least a third-round pick to make that move, but it would be doable.

We'll have to see what happens. I suspect the Eagles would be willing to move back to get another second or third-round pick. I think this will be a defense-heavy draft for the Eagles and the more guys you bring in the better your chances are of hitting on one or more of them.

Baker Mayfield feels disrespected. Well, yeah. Who wouldn't? You played fifteen games last year with a bad shoulder, were assured you were the guy, then they go out and bring in a replacement. It's not like the Browns are showing you a lot of respect. (By the way, Baker's dog may be the most chill dog in the world. He's just lying on his back and oblivious to everything while the interview goes down.)

They are treating Baker like qwap------you know what they say about karma..They are holding him hostage and he missed opportunities to sign with other teams...But the Browns may regret their decision..and it doesnt look so good for Watson to play in 2022 either they said the 22 civil trials may not see the courthouse until 2023...that is unless Watson and his plantiffs decide to settle out of court.... where does it leave Watson for the 2022 season and will the NFL keep him off the field until they see what happens in court.......The Haslams may be equal to Snyder as far as  being SCUM BAGS!

The USFL starts this weekend. The first game is Saturday 4:30 EST on FOX between the New Jersey Generals and Birmingham Stallions. The other games are on different channels throughout the weekend.

I plan on watching most of the games. Their website lists the players of each team; many of them were formerly in the NFL.

Will anone else be watching?

I'll watch them for a bit. How long will depend on how the games go.

By holding Baker as long as they have, his cap hit becomes an issue for teams interested in him. About the only QB needy team that can easily afford him now are the Panthers. Baker's got an $18+ million cap hit, and he'll want a new deal in the $35-$40 million a year range, so they're running out of suitors in a hurry. There won't be a bidding war for him, and the Browns may have to take whatever the Panthers or Seahawks offer. Either that or keep him and pay him the $18+ million this year. Baker's a free agent in 2023, so if they hold him and let him leave in free agency, they'd be looking at a likely third-round compensatory pick. If you're the Browns, a third-round pick for Baker might be the most you can get. And you might be lucky to get that.

They've put themselves in a bad bargaining position. And it's almost a certainty that the Watson suspension will be coming. How long? Roethlisberger was originally given a six-game suspension then reduced to four on appeal. I would expect at least that for Watson. Maybe more. Having Baker around isn't bad, but team chemistry issue with two QBs is generally a bit of a mess.

The good news is they've got a top-five type QB in Watson. The bad news is he could be suspended indefinitely, there's some fan backlash, and they're on the hook for a lot of money if he gets into more trouble. Oh, and they've offended a QB much of the fanbase loves.

It wouldn't surprise me if Watson got in trouble again and ya know the media will be following him around and scrutinizing his every move.....

Re: NFL News and Notes for April 2022!!!

@Spurt

Yeah, Watson has a quite beautiful longtime girlfriend, but clearly frequented other women on a very regular basis. Will that change in a new city? Probably not. Will it get him in trouble again? Almost certainly.

I'm assuming he's now smart enough to know not to look for trouble on social media. (That may be a bold assumption though.) Cleveland's a big enough city that it likely has some professional "escort" services that are more discreet than "massage therapists" who can keep him entertained.

He seems to like variety in his life as he used at least 47 "massage therapists." (22 who sued him and 25 more who came forward and said he did nothing wrong around them.) Odds are there were more even than that who have just stayed out of the spotlight altogether.

I'd be very nervous committing to him. Granted, most football players aren't saints and will do dumb stuff, especially where women are concerned. (LeSean McCoy reportedly abandoning a "date" along the side of an interstate after she refused to perform for him being just one of many examples.) But the money and assets invested in getting Watson would scare the daylights out of me.

If he becomes a saint, behaves himself, settles down, and plays to his potential, great. It's a home run for Cleveland. The odds of that happening though? Eh, not so great. People are who they are. Watson didn't make one mistake with one woman. He made repeated mistakes and likely would still be doing the same thing if not for the lawsuits.

Yeh, it looks like Watson has an addiction or developed a bad habit thats going to be difficult for him to stop----people are aghast at the sheer number of women----STAY TUNED!!!!

Kinda reminds me of the Cowboys and all the players in the late 80's and 90's that were into drugs and "ladies of the evening". There used to be a joke they were called "South America's Team"....some of ex-wives ended up with most of the player's cash....SMH

Re: NFL News and Notes for April 2022!!!

One area of need for Washington, besides a new owner, is in the secondary----  the team is hosting cornerback Kaiir Elam for a visit....Elam had 79 tackles, two tackles for loss, six interceptions, and a fumble recovery in 35 games for the Gators. Most draft "experts" project Elam coming off the board in the first two rounds. Washington has the 11th and 47th overall picks .....

This was rather amusing----John Keim reporting, he filed an update to ESPN on all the allegations in the letter to the FTC. Spoke with Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.) who said, “Quite frankly, as you go through the allegations it reads like a description of some organization out of the Godfather and not an NFL football team."

Re: NFL News and Notes for April 2022!!!

And while we're speaking of knuckleheads and crime, Cowboys cornerback (and wanna-be rap star) Kelvin Joseph finds himself in a murder investigation. It turns out he was in a group of people who got into a fight outside a bar and then the guy they were fighting got shot and killed later. Oops! He's assured the Cowboys management that while he was there, he didn't shoot anyone. It'll be interesting to see if his car was the one that the shots came from. That could be something of a problem for him.

This is why teams hate the offseason. When their resident knuckleheads get away from the team structure, they find ways to get themselves into trouble.

Joseph was off many draft boards completely due to issues while at LSU before he transferred to Kentucky. LSU tends to be a tad permissive and if they suspended him, well...Many teams were concerned that he was more looking for a rap career than a football career. The Cowboys used their "Character, schmaracter, we'll draft him!" model and now may be paying the price for that. It helps to explain why they're now looking to move up in the draft. They've got to find another low character corner/rap star to replace Joseph.

The Cowboys are encouraging him to cooperate with the police. (I'm assuming by that, that he isn't doing so already, which isn't the best omen. People who are truly innocent tend to willingly comply with police requests.) We'll have to see what comes from all of this, but the kid at the very least put himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, with the wrong people. At worst, he killed someone. In either case, he might be facing at least a suspension from the league and possibly life in prison. Not a great way to start the offseason program for Dallas.
