Re: NFL News and Notes for April 2021!!!

Hmmm....the Eagles may have found QB #3, or at least a camp arm, in wide receiver Khalil Tate. We signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2020 and converted him from QB to WR. In the recent changing of jersey numbers, we discovered that Tate was now #6. Single-digit numbers are reserved for QBs, punters, and kickers. It looks like we're reconverting him back to a QB. (Unless he has some unknown prowess kicking the football.)

He's much more like Jalen Hurts in his abilities, as he's a dual-threat QB. He both ran and passed for over 2,000 yards as an Arizona Wildcat. He threw for 57 touchdowns which is good, but also threw 31 interceptions which isn't so good. He also ran for 18 touchdowns. If you're looking for a kid who can come in should Hurts go down and not need to change the offense, Tate would be a good option. (Unlike Joe Flacco who's a statue in the pocket.)

The Eagles also have former QB Greg Ward, who's also a dual-threat QB, but he seems to be staying at WR. At least for now. The new coaching staff is taking a long look at the roster and shuffling some pieces around. Interesting.

Re: NFL News and Notes for April 2021!!!

I thought Aaron Rodgers did very well on Jeopardy. He seemed relaxed and had a bit of humor. I also liked the contestant's final Jeopardy answer about the field goal (even though it was wrong.)

Re: NFL News and Notes for April 2021!!!

I loved Aaron Rodgers on Jeopardy! He has the perfect voice and low-key delivery for it...and his wry sense of humor popped out periodically. I think he would be a fantastic permanent host! And that "throwaway" answer in Final Jeopardy about the field goal was priceless!

He was on GMF today and said that he could actually manage to do both Jeopardy and football by taping the shows during February through April and again in June. He sounds like he would really like to get the job on a permanent basis! Hope he does!😊 Along with Ken Jennings, I think Rodgers has been the best. I was not impressed with the producer who filled in. Could not take Katie Couric's voice. Dr. Oz was OK but I doubt if he wants it. And the future hosts do not look like ones I will enjoy.

So I am rooting for Aaron to get the Jeopardy gig!!😉

My first choice for Jeopardy hosts would be Ken Jennings, but I wouldnt mind Aaron at all!!! I think he will open up even more with humor and qwips as he gets used to the gig. I did catch him on GMF...(that was quite a lovefest with him and GMF LOL).

I Didnt care for Katie at all and dont really care for the lineup of upcoming guest hosts either....

Well you can scratch one NFL team off the list for QB Teddy Bridgewater.....the WFT has said it never had an interest, nor currently has no interest in Teddy (and never did for Sam Darnold either) ...Now John Keim said from what he hears the team still may draft a young QB but it probably would be in the later rounds.....  But withveterans Fitz and Allen the WFT doesnt really need to add another veteran QB....and in addition to Heinicke they also have QB Steven Montez on the roster...who will probably be used as training camp "fodder".......

In Daniel Jeremiah's Mock 3....most of the names affiliated for my WFT were gone so he has us taking Alijah Vera-Tucker OL---he's versatile and can play either tackle or guard....I dont quite get it because at 21 he has the Colts taking OL Darrisaw....I thought the WFT was targeting Darrisaw...hmmmm

He has the Eagles taking CB Patrick Surtain II .....

He has QBS going 1-4:

Lawrence-- Jags

Wilson    --- Jets, Jets, Jets

Jones     ----49ers

Lance     ----Falcons

and after the Bengals take TE Kyle Pitts, then the Lions take QB Justin Fields.....

The Cowboys take Edge --Kwity Paye, Giants WR Devonta Smith

I agree...there was quite a lot of love thrown around today on GMF...the hosts loved Aaron Rodgers and he loved them back!!😉 That Jeopardy-like quiz they gave him at the end was funny!😉

Heard on another program that Jeopardy only tapes 47 days out of the year...so if somehow the shows could be done during those four months in which Rodgers said he is available (Feb.through April, plus June), then maybe he could actually juggle both the Jeopardy hosting job and football!😉

@Spurt

That is a surprise to me about the Lions taking Justin Fields after having just traded for Jared Goff. But I am a big fan of Justin Fields and think he would be a huge asset to any team! I still wonder if SF might not take Fields over Mac Jones. Personally I think Fields is far more talented than Jones.

Many mock drafts have shown CB Patrick Surtain ll going to the Cowboys. Honestly, I have given up trying to predict or even think about what GM Howie Roseman will do with the #12 pick for the Eagles!😉

I know you like OL Christian Darrisaw so hopefully the WFT will snag him!☺

Re: NFL News and Notes for April 2021!!!

Aaron Rodgers would be a good fit if no one else wants to be permanent host of Jeopardy. I didn't know the show's schedule, but he could work it in with football. He's enthusiastic about the job, also.

I read that the Detroit Lions GM doesn't think that Jared Goff is a long term solution to quarterback.  So what was the point of the trade? If Matthew Stafford wasn't the solution, they could have just waited to draft another QB without going to the trouble of trading.

Several mock drafts have the Colts taking Edge Kwity Paye. I'm fine with that choice. The team needs pass rusher or OT.

Re: NFL News and Notes for April 2021!!!

If you're the Lions and the Rams are giving you two first-round picks and a third-round pick and Goff, sure, you take Goff. Are you in love with Goff? Maybe, maybe not, but two first-round picks and a third? Those you love.

The Lions are suddenly talking about taking a QB to try and get someone to move up to their spot to take a QB and make them even richer in draft picks. Someone may trade up with the Falcons, which would have four QBs going in four picks. (The Falcons could even draft a QB, who knows?) The Bengals won't draft a QB. Most "experts" think the Dolphins are giving Tua another year. That lands QB number five (to be named later) just flopping around at the feet of the Lions. Do they reel him in and end the first-round QB derby, or do they dangle him (whoever he may be) as trade bait and hope some desperate team  (Patriots, Bears, etc.) bites and overpays to get him.

At this moment the consensus is that Trevor Lawrence goes first. Zach Wilson goes second. Mac Jones goes third. Then either Trey Lance or Justin Fields goes next, likely fourth either to the Falcons or someone who trades for the pick.  That leaves whichever quarterback is left, not going fifth or sixth, and the Lions sitting there holding the seventh pick. "Well, well, well. So who else needs a QB?" ask the Lions. "We just so happen to be the ideal place to be sure you get the guy."

Trey Lance and Justin Fields seem to be QBs four and five this year. Oddly enough Mac Jones was largely considered QB five before the Niners made their move, now everyone seems to feel he's their guy and will go third.

Justin Fields made the mistake of going to Ohio State and the number of great pro QBs who've come from Ohio State includes....hmmm....hang on a minute, there's got to be someone....doesn't there? Maybe not. Don't get me wrong, they've sent a lot of QBs to the pros, it's just that none have done much once they got there. Is Fields different? Maybe, but teams get paranoid.

If Ohio State had churned out a Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, etc. Fields would be fought over. Instead, they've turned out Braxton Miller, Dwayne Haskins, Cardale Jones, Terrell Pryor, etc. There's nothing Justin Fields can do about it. He just has to hope he breaks the mold. (God knows whoever is replacing him at Ohio State is praying he breaks the mold.)

Trey Lance has an edge coming from North Dakota State as Carson Wentz came from ND State and transitioned nicely to the NFL. It is kind of weird that guy coming from a lower conference who has barely played is valued more than a guy from a top school, but such is the psyche of the NFL GMs, scouts, and coaches.

Some schools get a reputation for churning out good players at certain positions and other schools seem cursed at other positions. Ohio State and USC are cursed at QB. A lot of NFL teams will just ignore a kid from those schools because the ones who came before him flopped.

Re: NFL News and Notes for April 2021!!!

Jim Schwartz, former Eagles DC who needed a year off to clear his head, has apparently found his head clearing much sooner than expected and is now a coach for the Titans. It's pretty amazing how quickly burned-out coaches recover once they're out of the Philly madhouse.

Schwartz would have been in line to be interviewed for the Philly head coaching job, but wisely bailed out and ran away. Now that the vacancy in Philly has been filled and he's free, he's ready to get back into coaching. It's a miracle!

I don't think Sam Darnold was especially devastated to be traded from the only NFL team he's ever known. If he was, the wild party and celebration that his family threw upon hearing of the trade did wonders to hide his devastation. It's almost like he was happy being traded away from the Jets. Who could have figured that would be the case? It'll be interesting to see how he does in Carolina. Both he and the Panthers seem pretty happy for now though.

Zach Wilson's draft party (the likely replacement for Darnold on the Jets) is said to be using black crepe paper as party decorations and funeral dirges as the music. It should be a fun time as he watches his career as a QB come to an end on draft night. The last truly successful Jets QB was Joe Namath, so yeah, not great for poor old Zach.

In draft news, the name Kwity Paye keeps coming up more and more in conversations. He's the top-rated defensive end in the draft and some are now saying he could go in the top ten. I suspect he will. He's a high-value guy at a high-value position. It's a relatively safe position also. Those guys tend not to implode in the league. If he slips past the top ten, then the Giants could make a move for him.

The Niners are either drafting Mac Jones or alienating a whole lot of reporters who cover them. With the first two picks absolutely locked in at Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson, there's no need for the Niners to lie about their move. Even if the Jaguars or Jets changed their minds and decided to draft Jones (very unlikely) then Lawrence or Wilson would fall to the Niners which would be a win for the Niners. They've been leaking like a Congressional Committee that Mac Jones is their pick. If they're lying to those covering them in those leaks, it won't end well for the Niners. They gain nothing by lying and have a lot to lose.

We're hearing from a couple of the women suing DeShaun Watson. In the article, the following sentence is used. "All of the women who have sued Watson are either licensed massage therapists or worked in a spa or similar business." The either and or's in that sentence are interesting. So, not all were "licensed massage therapists" and what exactly is a "similar business" to a spa? Could it be that some who sued him were unlicensed and working in a massage parlor? (Commonly used as semi-legal brothels in much of the country.)

The women suing him seem somewhat easily traumatized. He exposed himself to them and they were touched by his genitals. Uh, so a massage therapist (licensed or not) has never seen a naked man before and was so traumatized by the experience that they have to sue him? The poor dears. Maybe the massage business isn't ideal for someone so delicate? God help them if they ever stumble upon some of the images on the Internet. Their delicate little old heads might just explode.

The good news is the women aren't suing him for money, or so they say. They just want to warn the other innocent, very delicate, easily traumatized massage therapists out there to avoid DeShaun Watson. Well, good news. They've done it! They can drop their suits now. Everyone's heard their stories. Mission accomplished! Whoo-hoo! They should be dropping their lawsuits any minute now. Hmmm....that's funny. They haven't. I wonder why? They say it's not about the money. Surely they wouldn't lie about something like that? No. They were just warning the public about him. It had nothing to do with money or blackmailing him. No. That would be wrong and beneath the dignity of an unlicensed massage therapist working in a brothel massage parlor. Yeah, the more we hear from those involved, the better DeShaun Watson looks. (Note to DeShaun Watson: High-end escort services are likely available in Houston and are typically more discreet (though more expensive) than what one finds in a massage parlor.)

We're just a little over three weeks from the draft now and the rumors have more defensive players and o-linemen moving up the board while the wide receivers and "skill" players seem to be slipping a bit. That's good news for the Eagles who desperately need a few skill players. (Along with everything else.) Most mock drafts now have one of the receivers the Eagles are reportedly interested in dropping to them at twelve. I wouldn't be shocked to see two or three get there. I figure five QBs will be gone, two o-linemen, a defensive end, and a couple of corners, and one of the receivers. We'll have to see how it all plays out.

The closer we get to the draft, the more accurate the mocks seem to get. Defensive players are trending a bit higher while the skill players are slipping a bit. That's pretty much in line with what we've seen in recent drafts.

Fly!!! Eagles!!! Fly!!!
