Re: NFL News and Notes for April 2018!!!

@yellowBeetle

Hi,

Interesting and lengthy article on ESPN on how the 49ers got their QB.....

All reports were correct how that Kyle was anxious to get Kirk Cousins on the 49ers and his GM knew it too.. That is what they had planned, The Patriots came calling and made an offer for them for Jimmy G. Lynch thought about it and there was a possibility that the Redskins would get him signed and Cousins wouldnt hit the market, Jimmy is 26,  Kirk was 29 (and would turn 30 in August) so Jimmy would be there long term and grow with their young team. ....If Cousins hit the market, with their cap space the 49ers could outbid anyone else....but Jimmy would be cheaper, so it took the 49ers 10 minutes to decide to take the deal that the Patriots offered.  although they said Kyle did mourn a bit for not being able to sign Cousins....but once Jimmy started a game for the 49ers Kyle was all in with Jimmy.....  There was no mention of the Redskins or Dan Snyder making sure that Cousins didn't go to the 49ers .....The Patriots just gave them an offer they couldn't refuse......(The Washington Post didnt report the situation accurately....and John Keim's version was correct, that Snyder had wanted to sign Cousins but the price got too high)...

Re: NFL News and Notes for April 2018!!!

The Niners made a good decision and it was made easy by Belichick just asking for a second round pick for Garappolo. Reportedly the Pats had been offered a first plus extra picks for him earlier and had refused to trade him, but now Belichick was less concerned with the compensation and just wanted Jimmy in a place where he could do well.

This is going to be an interesting season in the old NFC West. Can Garappolo continue to play at a high level? Have the Rams hurt their team chemistry with their new additions? Can Sam Bradford survive a whole season? What will that Seattle defense look like as they retool? Lots of moving pieces out there and no real idea how it'll all play out. Right now the Rams look like the team to beat followed by the Niners, Seahawks and Cards. But, if Sam Bradford could stay healthy, the Cards could be contenders. Russell Wilson will pretty much have to carry the Seahawks, but he's capable of that.a

Re: NFL News and Notes for April 2018!!!

Thanks for explaining how Garappolo ended up in SF instead of Cousins.

Dez Bryant said in an interview that "Garrett guys" were to blame for his release, along with some teammates. . He didn't mention names, so we don't know who the "Garrett guys" were. Jerry Jones thought highly of Bryant, and was most likely pressured into releasing him.

Maybe that's how it was, but since when has Jones been pressured to do anything he didn't want to? I thought that he had the last word on everything, so something seems off about that.

Dez was also upset because he was never chosen team captain.

He probably won't be out of job for long. Some Colts fans want him to join Indy. I doubt it will happen; he wants to stay in the NFC East and would come at too high a price.

Oddly enough, Jerry Jones doesn't always get his way. His son Stephen Jones handles much of the day-to-day running of the Cowboys. When Johnny Manziel came out in the draft JJ wanted him, but Stephen blocked the pick. Jerry now seems to just have a vote in who stays, who goes, who they sign in free agency, and who they draft, but not total control. I suspect he regrets giving up total control. Stephen Jones is now the CEO, Executive Vice President, and Director of Player Personnel. With those titles comes much of the control of the team.

You are so right about that......when was Jerry EVER pressured into doing anything---- it seems it was just some BS that he gave to Dez so Dez wouldnt point the finger at him....

@gardenman

The 49ers had previously asked about Jimmy G but they were turned down....I think Beli wanted to keep him to be Brady's heir apparent....but he got over ruled by someone in the organization, maybe as a compensation, they let Jimmy chose where he went....But that seems that the 49ers got him awfully cheap .....maybe they wanted to assure that he wouldnt play in the AFC too....But this deal might end up hurting the Patriots in the long run.....we will see.

As for Jerry,  yes Sephen has had to step in to "save Jerry from himself"......Jerry still probably has the power to fire his son, but that family dynamic wouldn't sit well with Mrs. Jones Smiley Wink so he's definitely not going to go there......Smiley Wink

I know Snyder can be a real jerk (I think must billionaires are they are used to scrapping their way to the top of the heap and when they reach it, getting their way), but the WAPO are jerks too, they are rentless in their battle with the Redskins, but that was awful how they bad mouthed Mrs.Snyder after her battle with breast cancer.....And WAPO has gotten in trouble for their misinformation in other news (which I wont t get into since its one of those forbidden topics on the Q forums).......

Apparently there was some unhappiness from the Patriot's owner and management that Belichick had given away Garoppolo for just a second round pick. Jimmy G winning six straight games didn't make them any happier. About a year ago, before the 2017 draft, at least one team offered a first round pick and an additional pick, so management felt that should be the floor for Garoppolo. Belichick didn't care. Apparently he likes both Garoppolo and Kyle Shanahan and wanted both to be successful, so he only asked for a second round pick. Originally the Niners' Brian Hoyer was to be included, but then the Patriots opted out since it would affect compensatory picks in some manner.

Re: NFL News and Notes for April 2018!!!

In an odd quirk, Mark Sanchez has been suspended four games for using a performance enhancing drug (PED). Sanchez denies this and suspects a supplement was tainted. I suspect the PED manufacturers will also be upset by this claim "Hey, if he was using our drug do you think he'd perform as poorly as he has? No! Our drugs work!"

Sanchez was already having a hard time finding a team, and this four game suspension won't help him any. It might be time for him to move on to whatever he was planning to do after football. His only real option to play would have been if a team lost a quarterback or two to injury and needed a proven vet, but with him forced to sit out four weeks, his value as a spare is greatly diminished. Four weeks is a quarter of the season and that's a long time to have to sit before he can suit up to play. Mark's in a very tough spot right now.

Re: NFL News and Notes for April 2018!!!

So can the Eagles void his contract and get rid of Worley after his arrest.?????  I wouldnt want this guy on my team..

Eagles cornerback  Daryl Worley was arrested this morning in Philadelphia. NFL Network reports that police used a taser on Worley in the process of arresting him, and a gun was recovered.

There was no immediate word on why Worley was arrested. The incident occurred near the team’s facility.

A 2016 third-round pick of the Panthers, Worley has only been an Eagle for a month......
