Re: NFL News and Notes/March 2018!!

I am reading and hearing more and more that people think Foles will stay with the Eagles. Peter King has been saying it over and over since the Super Bowl. Yesterday ESPN's Chris Mortensen and Louis Riddick both said that the Eagles need Foles as an insurance policy in case Wentz cannot start the season...or worst case,  Wentz needs to take the entire 12 months to fully recover, thereby missing all of 2018. Their thinking is that no other player they could acquire via a draft pick would be as valuable to the team as is Foles. So unless Foles really wants to move on...or unless they can get a much, much better deal than they did with Bradford...1st and 4th round picks plus more...King, Mortensen, and Riddick think the Eagles will keep Foles, as do lots of other online sports writers who have said the same.

The one common thought, though, is that it should be up to Foles. Many seem to believe he is very happy in Philly...loves the team and the area. Riddick and some others think the Eagles should offer Foles a long-term contract and lock him down. That could happen...and would certainly be the best outcome for the Eagles ...if Foles is amenable.

Re: NFL News and Notes/March 2018!!

On today's Pardon the Interruption, the lead story was about Nick Foles. Both Tony Kornheiser and Mike Wilbon were extremely effusive and complimentary about Foles. The gist was that Foles is a proven talent and much more worthy of consideration by quartetbsck-needy teams than anyone other than Cousins. Both said they would much prefer Foles to any of the Draft prospects. They were urging teams to make Philadelphia a generous offer they cannot refuse, including a 1st round Draft pick and a 3rd or 4th round pick, too. Tony was positively gushing over Foles' statistics in the Championship game and the Super Bowl...and Mike was equal in his high praise of Foles' ability.

Often Tony and Mike disagree, lol, but today they were totally in sync in their ringing endorsement of Foles! It was really something!Woman Happy

So with praise like that, it will be interesting to see what happens! Still think it should be up to Foles to decide if he wants to stay in Philly or go to another team. And if he does want to go, he should have the final say as to where, imo.

Re: NFL News and Notes/March 2018!!

Nick Foles and Kirk Cousins have an odd set of coincidences. Both were recruited to Michigan State University in the same class. Nick was the backup to Brian Hoyer while Cousins was red-shirted. Then Nick transferred to Arizona while Cousins stayed in Michigan. Nick was a third round pick in 2012  while Cousins was a fourth round pick in 2012. Both have similar stats as pros. (Especially if you remove Nick's disastrous year with the Rams.) They're both likely changing teams this year. Both are likely to make a lot of money this year. Nick's had more postseason success.

It's going to be interesting to see who ends up where, but you can make a pretty good argument that the two guys are pretty much equal in talent and performance. Whatever team loses the Kirk Cousins lottery should have the Eagles on speed dial.

It looks like Arizona, Denver, Minnesota and the Jets will be the big bidders for Cousins. Three of them will not get Cousins. Will one of them get Foles? I'm betting one of those teams antes up for Foles and my money is still on Denver. They've gone the talented rookie route with Paxton Lynch and Trevor Siemian, and failed. They had success with a veteran free agent in Peyton Manning. They need a QB and another kid would cost them that fifth overall pick, and if I'm right, they'd be getting the fourth best kid at five.

Buffalo could compete for Foles. The Eagles apparently tried to trade for LeSean McCoy last year, offering Jordan Matthews, but the Bills said no only to later take Matthews for cornerback Ronald Darby. The Bills have two first round picks and have signed runningback Chris Ivory to a two year deal, so they may be ready to deal McCoy.

A week from today free agents will start signing and we'll see how things shake out. It should be interesting.

[ Edited ]

Don't  you wish you could apply for ths nice little job.....And my oh my look at what TOP QBs were paid...........

Report: Peyton Manning could get up to $10 million per year from FOX or ESPN

Twenty years ago, as a rookie quarterback in the NFL, Peyton Manning signed a contract that paid him 8 mill a year. Soon, he could be making 25 percent more than that as a rookie broadcaster.

Michael McCarthy of SportingNews.com reports that ESPN and FOX are preparedto pay up to 10 millper year to work as the primary analyst on Monday Night Football or Thursday Night Football.

Manning is widely regarded as a natural at television, combining an ability to speak extemporaneously in a naturally funny, self-aware way with a relentless work ethic that will ensure the highest level of preparation.

If the money is equal, FOX arguably would provide the better opportunity, with a bigger audience and a schedule that would allow Manning to spend weekends at home. He also could, in theory, join the Joe Buck/Troy Aikman team for postseason games or the Super Bowl.

Re: NFL News and Notes/March 2018!!

Peyton Manning likely already has more money than he could spend in a lifetime or two. His net worth is reportedly around $200 million. A conservative rate of return on investment is five percent and five percent of $200 million is $10 million a year. You would have to spend $27,397.26 a day just to use up the $10 million in investment return without touching your original $200 million. He's got some crazy cash on hand now, and that will likely only grow.

I'm not sure how good he'd be in the booth, but I was pessimistic about Romo and he turned out to be great. Jay Cutler may end up back in the booth again too. Romo set the bar pretty high for the new guys.

Re: NFL News and Notes/March 2018!!

Interesting. The Eagles got Michael Bennett from the Seahawks for Marcus Johnson (a young wide receiver) and a fifth round pick. The Eagles also got a seventh round pick back also. That adds more depth to the Eagles d-line, but also increases our salary cap deficit. That d-line should pretty much terrify offensive coaches now. Fletcher Cox, Michael Bennett, Brandon Graham, Derek Barnett, Tommy Jernigan, Chris Long, and more, makes a pretty intimidating group.

Re: NFL News and Notes/March 2018!!

By the way, Marcus Johnson, the wide receiver the Eagles traded for Michael Bennett, has five catches for 45 yards in two years with the Eagles. Last year the Eagles traded Matt Tobin (back up offensive lineman) and a seventh round pick to Seattle for a fifth round pick, and this year we traded a fifth round pick and Marcus Johnson and got back a seventh, so essentially we traded Matt Tobin and Marcus Johnson for Michael Bennett. That seems a tick one-sided in favor of the Eagles.

Re: NFL News and Notes/March 2018!!

@gardenman

WOW--Michael Bennett gets traded and Eagles got the best of the bargain....and Im reading the Seahawks are looking to get rid of Richard Sherman too.............Sherman would clear 11 mill in cap space....he only played 9 games and tore his right achilles and recently underwent surgery to clear up left achilles................

Well Jerrah reimbursed the NFL 2 mill for legal fees.........and NBA Mavs owner Mark Cuban was accused of harrasment and is under investigation....Things arent going so well for sport's owners in what we like to call "little d" couldnt happen to two "nicer" people......Woman Very Happy (evil grin)......

The Redskns need more weapons and the draft is not deep at WR. The team is targeting free agents Allen Robinson, Paul Richardson and Sammy Watkins.........

Re: NFL News and Notes/March 2018!!

That NFC West is looking kind of interesting. The Rams and Niners seem to be climbing while the Seahawks are gutting their defense. The Cards are pretty much stuck in neutral.

The Eagles and Giants are making moves to improve. (The Giants traded for linebacker Ogletree from the Rams.) The Cowboys used their cap space on Demarcus Lawrence who they couldn't let leave, but who sounds like he's going to play Kirk Cousin's game and force the Cowboys to tag him each year until they have to let him go. They'll be losing quite a few players in free agency. The Redskins pretty much replaced Kirk Cousins with an older version of him.

Next week the free agents start signing and that should get interesting. I'm guessing we'll see more trades between now and then.

An interesting sidenote on the Bennett trade. Supposedly the Patriots offered a third and fifth round pick for Bennett, but Seattle preferred the Eagles fifth and Marcus Johnson instead. I'm not sure anyone but Seattle values Marcus Johnson more than a third round pick, but hey, it worked out well for the Eagles. Marcus Johnson is a speedy receiver, but he's been largely a non-factor for the Eagles. The Seahawks apparently really love the kid though, so that's good.
