Re: NFL News and Notes for September 2017!!!

@gardenman

This was a bit interesting...the Redskins signed QB Alek Torgersen to practice squad who was in the Falcons camp..................He's an Ivy leaguer, Pennsylvania.  His strengths--- he's smart, good arm strength, good strong hands, accurate on his throws. weaknesses holds on to the ball too long and stares down his targets. Inconsistent reads................

Accurate prediction---Developmental quarterback with NFL size and a good head on his shoulders. Torgersen's success came against a much lower level of competition, but it is worth noting that his accuracy and arm strength will also benefit his growth when he's throwing to NFL-caliber targets. Torgersen's traits make him a late round stash-and-hide prospect with practice squad potential

@Spurt Alek Torgerson got a lot of attention predraft and the Eagles brought him in for a workout. There was talk he would be a popular guy, but his height (6' 2") hurt him a bit. Teams are all looking for those 6' 5"+ guys these days.

Yep, NFL teams looking for NBA types, but hey Russell Wilson. Drew Brees seem to be doing OK.  I saw an article that average height was 6'3" so Alek is not that far off..........!!  ..

Well if Cravens retires he owes Redskins big buck$$$, he'd have to pay back 1.04 mill pro-rated signing bonus because its for future years........

Re: NFL News and Notes for September 2017!!!

The big question with Cravens is, do the Redskins want him back? The NFL is a tough sport and you've got to be 'all in' to play it well. If he's not all in, and it certainly sounds like he isn't currently, then you're probably better off without him. You don't want a quitter on the field late in a game you must win.

That was one of the big question marks this year with Myles Garrett. Did he have too many distractions in his life to focus on football? That was a big concern for scouts and evaluators. No one questioned his ability, but where was his heart? Was he going to be all in on football for the next five, ten years, or was football just a passing fancy and once he'd milked enough cash from the game he'd move on?

Talent evaluators love the guys who eat, sleep and breathe football. They're safe bets. They may not be the most talented players, but they'll leave everything they've got on the field  Right now Su'a Cravens has a huge flashing red sign attached to his name, and unless he can convince the Redskins, and the league that he's all in, he may be out of the league. Talent is great, but if the team can't rely on you, that talent level starts to matter less and less.

He's got a month to get his act together and decide what he wants to do. If he has any doubts about football as a career then he's probably not going to have a career in football. Going back to a locker room you quit on is not an easy thing for a player. Some of those guys hold grudges for a long, long time. Quitting is arguably the worst thing you can do in a locker room type environment. Going back into that environment will be like being a rookie all over again and worse. He's put himself and the Redskins in a really bad spot.

If he's not all in as a teammate, coach, or fan I DONT WANT HIM!!!  And he put the team in a bad spot perhaps they couldve found a FA to take his place earlier on................

Yeah, I think how the Redskins react will be interesting. I would not be surprised to see them cut him loose and say "Forget the signing bonus, just go and good luck." They bought themselves some time by giving him the designation they did. They're apt to drop his name to safety needy teams hoping someone will trade something for him, but barring any team doing that, they'll likely end up letting him walk. It's really hard to bring a guy like that back into a locker room.

And here's more info on the Sudfeld deal....apparently the Redskins DID make the practice squad offer to him, but he turned down the offer and signed with the Eagles.........Woman Tongue

Practice squad ---2 young WRs made it Maurice Harris and Robert Davis who a lot fans pereferred over Brian Quick, LB Pete Robertson was bought back--team was high on him....And S Fish Smithson made it too...................

@gardenman

More on Cravens.....some questioned his lack of desire to play when he was at USC, he almost quit in his rookie season, then the bumbling and stumbling Redskin Front Office took him with their 2nd round pick.....then played him as an undersized LB a position that requires a lot physically and mentally and carries a big risk for injury (brilliant move wasn't it for someone questioning whether he likes football-INSERT SARCASM here)...he got injured....moved to CB and transitionig him to safety.....one reporter said to let him go and support him in his decision.  And just another case where the Redskins will be cutting their loses....happening to frequently, maybe the team should cut their loses in the front office too!  If you look in the dictionary under "drama" the Redskins will be listed as the drama team......

Redskins do have options---DJ Sweariger is a good leader of the backfield....and Deshazor Everett will be given an opportunity, and some coaches like the looks of 4th round pick, Montae Nicholson who has good size, speed, and mentality to play the position......he's finally healthy and ready to play!

Re: NFL News and Notes for September 2017!!!

Swearinger is one of those guys who moves so frequently that it raises a few red flags. He was a second round pick of the Texans in 2013, but they flushed him in 2015 and he went to Tampa only to get flushed again, then on to the Cards, and now the Redskins. That's a lot of moving in a short period of time for a guy who was a high draft pick. Most 2013 second round picks are still with the team that drafted them. He's like a defensive version of Christine Michael.

It is interesting that Sudfeld chose the Eagles over the Redskins. It'll be interesting to hear his reasoning behind that.

I think the Sudfeld deal signig with the Eagles was a bit of "revenge" for cutting him....he probably felt he had a good showing in that last preseason game and he probably felt the team showed him a bit of disrespect.....JMHO.  But from what I was reading there was never a competition for #2 spot---McCoy was always heads above Sudfeld ....and ND seemed to even regress a bit......perhaps it was all in ND's mind that felt he could move into the #2 spot and when it didnt happen....what could be better than a new opportunity served with a bit of revenge Smiley Wink ...
