Sixers fire head coach Doc Rivers

Doc Rivers' tenure as the Philadelphia 76ers' head coach is over. The Sixers on Tuesday fired Rivers after a crushing game 7 loss to the Celtics and another second-round exit, a team source confirmed to CBS News Philadelphia.

@Mz iMac Doc is an amazing coach! Also fired weree Monty Williams of the Suns, Mike Budenholzer of the Bucks and Nick Nurse of the Raptors. Budenholzer's brother was killed in a traffic accident during the first round when the Bucks lost. All 3 were Coaches of the Year within the past 5 years.

Since Doc was *fired,* I wonder if the Sixers still have to pay off the rest of his $8 million contract as he has 2 more yrs left on it?

I was saddened to hear this. Doc coached the Celtics and I have nothing but love for him.

The pundits said he woudn't be fired but...

To be fair, I won't name him but one of the lead players choked and the rest of the team didn't step up. Embiid couldn't do it alone.

I hope he and all the other fired coaches are hired elsewhere.
