My favorite radio station, The Ticket 1310am here in DFW,

has one less broadcaster.  Mike Rhyner, the creator of this

unusual sports format, announced his retirement yesterday.

And the outpouring of tributes, well wishes & thank you’s

from so many local & even national luminaries, is so touching.

Why is this important?
The Ticket has been on the air since 1994 & the host lineup has been
the same from 5:30am-7:00pm...totally unheard of in broadcasting.

Mike Rhyner had a concept unlike any other talk show radio.
It was a ‘men’s club’ of sorts...70% sports/30% of comedy, family,
music, movies.  And I’ve been listening since the late 90’s.
Those guys are like family...seen marriages, divorces, babies..
and babies graduating from college!

Many national syndicated talk show hosts credit Mike Rhyner for his
unusual talk show format...and use that format in their markets.

New voice/s will be heard but sad to see part of my family move on.😭
So having one host leave, it’s sad...just like when your favorite boss or
co-worker leaves. Just different. 😕

Re: 😕DFW 1310am The Ticket

Sorry @sidsmom .  I've heard you mention The Ticket in your posts throughout the years.  It is hard losing a routine that we have been doing for the past twenty five years, especially when it involves people that we become accustom to listening to on a daily basis.  I hope you were able to share your feelings on their website, to express your appreciation and say your goodbyes.

@sidsmom  I live in DFW. I was shocked. He didn't even tell his fellow Hardliners. Just dropped the mic and that was it. I can't help but wonder what's behind this. Of course the Old Grey Wolf might have just become irritated or bored by it all. I could sense he was become detached. Who knows. But it's going to be SO different without him! Even Dale Hansen said Rhynes was getting more coverage than the Cowboys.

@LonestarBabs

He chooses the return music for the Hardline & then tweets out the list

every day. On 12/10, it was the last day before they went on vacation

('dry dock') and the music? 👇👇👇He was telling us....everything was

so planned out!!  Cool guy.  I will miss him at Ticketstock.

@sidsmom   Yes, he planned it out -- that's obvious. Just not telling his co-workers, especially Corby and Danny, was a little strange IMHO. But, perhaps those guys wouldn't be able to keep it a secret.

@LonestarBabs

He will be on a year-long farewell tour, I'm sure.

Last night, Mavericks honored him.🏀
