Those damned Mariners did it again: started off slow, got better, then went into their late-season swoon--AGAIN--and have eliminated themselves from the playoffs.

They do this year after year and now they're asking the city of Seattle to give them taxpayer money for a multi-million dollar upgrade to Safeco Field. Despite their lousy record, they're making money hand over fist; they can use their own damned money to maintain Safeco (the 20-year-old retractable roof needs it).

I don't get it! They have a really good team and it's possible one of their closers, Edwin Diaz, could win a Golden Glove this year. It's not like they don't have talent; they're loaded with it. But their offense is completely lifeless and even some of their best hitters couldn't hit the broad side of a barn if they were standing 5" away.

Maybe other M's fans, reading this thread, have some answers/suggestions/thoughts? 

Do you think there is any chance, there will be no taxpayer funded Safeco Field reno/maintenance ?
