Ali defeated Liston for boxing's heavyweight title in 1964. In 2001 Will Smith played Ali. A fine, fine performance.

Ali had me watching boxing for the first time in my life. He was magic.

I love boxing. Larry Holmes lives local to me. I was more of a Ken Norton fan, myself.

My father and brother used to watch the fights every week and had their favorites. My father liked Rocky Marciano as I recall. I was not a boxing fan but have the memories of my dad and brother enjoying this sport. Of course when Muhammad Ali came along, I did follow his boxing career in the newspapers. I always liked to hear what he had to say!!

@Group 5 minus 1 I am a huge boxing fan. Sonny Listen & Sugar Ray Robinson got me started. When "Cassius Clay" came around that is when boxing became more "entertainment." Some what like Gorgeous George was to wrestling.
Nothing like watching boxing on a black & white tv, audiance of all white men who smoked cigs, pipes or cigarettes, 15 rounders & Howard Cosell.

I have really enjoyed reading all the posts about boxing. Brought back memories of Daddy watching the Friday night fights on our black and white tv set.

This was the one where Cassius Clay was yelling "I AM THE GREATEST"? Listened on the radio with my dad. He was a huge Ali fan and was so mad when they banned him from boxing.
If you like him see "When We Were Kings" the best documentary I ever ever ever saw! Made in 1996--fabulous film. Real footage and commentary on the Rumble in the Jungle! Wonderful look at Ali and George Foreman! And James Brown, B.B. King, George Plimpton, Norman Mailer and others!
Heard George talking about fighting Ali and Ali hanging on to him after George had been whooping up on him and Ali whispering in George's ear "George! Is that all you got? Is that all you got George?"
And George was thinking "Yeah. That's about all I got!"
We got to meet Ali in about 1971 and will never ever forget that.
