I own the Bristol Satchel which has a outside pocket. My iPhone 5 fits in there perfectly. I can see where some of the larger phones may not fit.

My satchels have a very wide rectangular pocket beneath the zippered pocket which I slip my Samsung Note phone into. The smaller pocket they call a phone pocket I put my eyeglass cleaner and microfiber cloth and my asthma inhaler for quick grabbing.

Organization, as far as I'm concerned, has never been Dooney's stong suit. That said, they've gotten a lot better than they used to be... I do wish they'd do outside zipper pockets more regularly though. And yea, while I can almost always find a place for my cell, it isn't always easy...
