Why can't they make a theft-proof handbag that's made of something other than that cheap-looking nylon? I was watching a presentation of a new bag and matching wallet that impressed me. The features looked like a great deal of thought had gone into the design. I would have bought it except for the fact that I disliked the material. There must be a way that they can make at least one leather bag that retains those features while giving us some style. I go to France every year and though I'm very careful and have never had anything stolen, it's on my mind a great deal, particularly when I'm in Paris. However, I have my limits when it comes to utility over style.

Nylon is not necessarily cheesy. There are some very chic nylon brands.

A good thought but I think that the point of Travelon is the lightweight properties of nylon. The bag I have isn't cheap looking at all. The bag on air might be a different type of nylon, the one I have is the crinkle.

You might want to look into one of PacSafe's leather bags. Have had my two for 15 years. Bought them when the company first started, and never looked back.
They have an integrated wire cable that runs between the leather in the strap. Unless a thief has a bolt cutter capable of cutting this airline cable, your strap won't be cut.
Embedded between the outer leather and inner lining of the bag is metal mesh that will resist being cut through by someone thinking they can slash the bottom of your bag (one of thieves choice methods of getting your bag contents). Many of the newer PacSafe bags have anchor clips and safety hooks.
They have similar anti-theft features built into their small, thin, neck wallets.
I love my leather gear, but I also love Travelon fabric bags with the same safety features. I generally have at least one of each with me. Black leather and denim or leopard fabric. My old PacSafe bags don't have RFID blocking, but I use sleeves for the few cards I carry, and they are carried in a neck wallet with an anti-theft neck strap.

Holly, the vendor for travelon, is married to my cousin!!! I'll have to ask her that question about the leather, but I do think the whole point of Travelon is to make something lightweight for traveling and just when you are out and don't want to carry a heavy purse.
Just recently my husband gave me a most wished for Coach purse which I really do love, but the thing is so heavy!! I keep switching sides when I carry it so I won't get lopsided, lol.
I think I know which travelon bag you are referring to and I'm pretty sure I'm going to order it. One of my sisters already did in the leopard, which isn't the style for me, but I do like the bag a lot for summer and vacations.

I ahve the smaller messenger type travel bags from years ago that they made of lamb leather- it's very lightweight. Haven't seen leather pieces from Travelon in a long time! I'm sure it's cost prohibitive, although their nylon bags are really nice. Prada is big on using 'like' materials!
If it's the anti theft feature you want most- you can buy just a wallet with it. Or the piece to put in your current wallet- QVC was selling them at holiday time.
