I wouldn't wear those if someone gave me $150 to take them home.  Look really painful. Wooden shoes with hard leather across the instep and a metal buckle?  Hard pass!

I remember them when I was a teen.  I have a pair that I bought on Amazon.  I paid about half of that price.  Must have been about 10 years ago.  I still wear them during the summer with shorts.

I think mine were a Dr S.  knockoff, probably couldnt afford the $12 back then in college.

Strangely enough (for those who never tried them), they were not uncomfortable, I never fell out of them, never got blisters from the sole or the leather top.  They were sort of an engineering miracle.  LOL

Years ago I tried on a friend's new pair and thought they were the best Foot Torture Device ever made. 

What is the point of these shoes, anyway?  Wouldn't wear them if you paid me $150!

I do remember those shoes being popular, I most likely never paid much attention to the price because I never bought them.   I do remember the friend who swore by them, and I know she was virtually always out of money so I suspect even long ago they were considered inexpensive.

Do we have a year when Dr. School's was $12?

I agree with you @RoughDraft I loved mine and wore them for a couple of years in the summer.  All my friends did too.  My favorite pair were my red ones and also had a navy pair.  I was so excited when I got my first pair I put them on as soon as Mom paid for them.

My feet have aged out of them and WOW the price!  Fond fun teen age memories.
