I love Birkenstock (and Birkis and Papillios) but absolutely cannot stand Vionics. Most uncomfortable shoes in the world IMO. And I don't get the crazy pricing for the molded rubber sole. I mean really, it probably costs them fifty cents to make that footbed.

You aren't doing anything wrong. I can't wear Orthoheel/Vionic shoes and sandals either. The insole is rock hard and causes me foot pain. The arch is in the wrong spot for my foot. That brand doesn't work for me.

@TY Thanks for posting! For some reason Birkenstock shoes seem to be best on my foot with my bad back.
I think you are right about the problem with the arch. I also think if you only pronate in on one foot the other one is over-corrected.
My left knee is the one who feels like it's being thrown out of place when I wear these shoes. My guess is maybe my right foot pronates in some but my other foot doesn't.
I have tried over and over and these shoes kill my back and knees.

One type bed foot really does not fit all, I have tried all the sandal and clogs mentioned and after all these years I'm still wearing Birkenstocks. The Alegria that was the TSV recently fit me well, but they threw my balance off. I like the way Vionic fits and feels, but can only wear in small doses or I have foot pain.

Orthaheels are for people with specific foot problems. If you do not have those foot problems you should not be wearing Orthaheels. I hate that they are so vague and misleading in the presentations.
I do not buy them because I do not have the specific foot issues that Orthaheels help.

I want to thank you for your input. I was thinking about getting the TSV but I do not like to break in shoes before I can wear them all day. I have bought Earth Origins and Ryka and I never had a break in period. I bought Dansko today and hope they are comfortable if not they will go back. This is why I always read the forum and it is very informative.

Orthoheel/Vionic is a vendor on The Shopping Channel in Canada and I think once TSC posted on their fb page that if you don't over-pronate then Vionic shoes may not be for you. As I don't over pronate at all those shoes don't fit my feet at all. I wish other shoe manufacturers would stop trying to copy those Vionic footbeds that are rock hard. I had a nice Hush Puppies pair of flats that I ended up getting rid of as the insole and the back of the heel were too stiff.

Just a suggestion, but have you tried any of the Earth brands? I believe they have a raised arch also but it doesn't seem to be as pronounced as Vionics.

I have tried Earth brands and they are great. I never had a break in period with these shoes. I wore them right out of the box all day and they never hurt my feet. I would highly recommend this brand.

I firmly believe that not everyone needs an orthotic! I didn't think I did because I wear an off the shelf size 9M with no problems. No backache, no problems... but I decided to try on a pair at Dillards. I chose just a pair of walking shoes, like sneakers and the shoe hurt horribly.... felt like (and walked like) a little old lady trying to get across the carpet~!!
So now I know that I'm definitely not a candidate for Vionics Orthaheel shoes....
...and I'm guessing that there a lot of us who can't wear them. A lot that do, granted.... but not everyone should!
