The Walking Company has filed for chapter 11

http://footwearnews.com/2018/business/news/walking-company-chapter-11-bankruptcy-515738/

Just an FYI if you like The Walking Company shoe store and/or their shoes. They have filed for bankruptcy chapter 11. How this affects them going forward, who knows? If you like their brand or are looking to get replacement shoe insoles, I wouldn't wait to get them, especially if they are going to be closing stores.

@TY,

We have a small mall, but we do have The Walking Company store. Last year I got a great buy on UGG boots. This year they are not carrying them at all, I guess I know why now! Thanks for posting,

Re: The Walking Company has filed for chapter 11

Not surprising.  I have a love/hate relationship with the Walking Company.  I have problem feet and can only wear "comfort" brands of footwear.  I don't have much luck with the department stores so I end up ordering most of my shoes online.  However, I've gone into the Walking Company in my local mall several times looking for shoes and they NEVER have my size.  I am a size 11 which seems to be a fairly common size these days, but they carry very few styles in that size.  They always have their tag line "but we can order them and have them sent to your house!"  If I wanted to do that, I could order the shoes myself online from Zappos and have them in a day or two.  So it's not surprising that they're in trouble.

Not surprised.  They don’t ajways offer free shipping like Zappos and their service in the store is awful.  Not to mention their lack of inventory.

I wear their ABEO orthotics for exercise walking. I did google and found them only at one other store: FootSmart,  where they are a few dollars more.

Thanks for the alert, @TY

Ah, I just discovered that Footsmart is aligned with The Walking Company, so no wonder they are the only other site that sells ABEO.

Here is another article from Bloomberg:

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-03-06/birkenstock-and-abeo-shoemaker-files-for-bankrupt...

Maybe the loss of Ugg as a vendor hurt The Walking Company but I have never understood why their store distribution is so skewed. For example there are FOUR stores on the Las Vegas strip within about a 1 kilometer distance -- one at The Fashion Show Mall, one at the the Grand Canal shoppes at the Venetian casino, one at the Forum Shops at Ceasar's Palace casino, and one at the Miracle Mile Mall at the Planet Hollywood casino.

And yet there's no Walking Company stores in Bellingham, or anywhere between Vancouver, B.C. Canada and north Seattle. The closest one is at Alderwood Mall north of Seattle. The store at the Tacoma Mall is located on the outside of the mall, not inside where most of the stores are, it's poorly located. I can imagine that The Walking Company would have to downsize their footprint and close a lot of stores if they are to succeed in reorganizing.

I live in the metro DC area, and people who need extremely comfortable shoes swear by the Comfort One Shoe stores.  Unfortunately, they are only in the mid-Atlantic states, but they also sell online.   A good friend of mine can only wear their shoes.  They are very pricey, but for her they are worth it.
