I saw a video on YouTube once on stretching shoes using ice so I thought I'd try this method on the new Nine West pumps I got the other day because they dig in across my high instep. I filled two Ziploc sandwich bags about a third full of water and stuffed them into the toe box of each shoe, then I put the shoes in the freezer. Theoretically, as the water freezes, it expands and gently stretches the shoes. Hope it works!

@Texasmouse This does work! I tried it on a pair of dress shoes that I bought online that were a bit too small and after using this trick they fit perfect!!

There's more...do you want them? Try everything....I know what it's like when shoes hurt but you don't want to give them up....

Thank you, @Annabellethecat66, you're so sweet! I just put the shoes in the freezer so I'll see if that worked when I take them out tomorrow. If not, I might try another method or just try that one again, as I've heard that you might have to do it more than once, depending on how much the shoes need to stretch. ☺

That sounds like a great idea. I'll have try that one day.

My family owned the largest fine shoe for 60 years where I lived.
The only thing you can really do is buy shoe stretchers that are good quality. When you stretch leather, (think of skin here), it goes back some. The only thing you can do to effectively relieve that pressure is to buy professional shoe stretchers that don't fall apart when you first put tension on them to stretch the shoe and leave them obn for several days to cause it to work.
Personally, I have found the best to be from Colonial Medical.

@ECBG I agree. A good shoe stretcher is definitely the only way to go. It's worth the money.

I do own a wooden shoe stretcher with those removable plastic nobs (used for areas like bunions or where the area needs extra stretching) but I have found that the shoe stretchers don't work on the sewn areas of the shoes like the vamp edge of the shoe. The thread doesn't stretch enough.
