It totally depends on your needs/problems with your feet and knees, and only a doctor can help you figure that out. For me, Vionics saved my career and kept me from having to retire early on disability. My right foot was crushed when I was 11 and I have severe arthritis in every joint in that foot. The exagerrated arch support and soft padding of the Vionic shoes keeps my right foot nice and stable, and buffers the shock of each step, and that allowed me to keep standing nine hours a day on the concrete floor of my laboratory, so I could keep working until I reached retirement age. I had worn Birkenstocks for decades, but as I aged, the cork footbed was no longer enough cushion, and I developed plantar faciitis and severe arthritis pain.
