Hello!
I need a suggestion on the best shoes/boots for not slipping on ice. I recently moved here from CA so don’t know what is a good brand to buy. i am 75 and need shoes/boots that are really good anti-slip as i just recently slipped on ice & hurt my knees.
i would like the boots that are ankle high but not more than a 4" shaft.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you!

@Spikedog Sounds like you need a personal shopper. 😝

@Spikedog. You can buy cleat-like spikey things that clamp or strap onto your shoes. They're probably your best bet for a safe trip on icy areas.

The best thing I can recommend are things called yaktrax or any similar called boot or shoe ice grippers, or ice cleats that slip over your boot or shoe. They have spikes on the bottom that grip into the ice.
I think I got mine from QVC or HSN originally and got some for my mother too.
But you can get them anywhere for all different prices. Just put that in your search bar and you'll have all kinds come up.
They make you feel really confident that you won't fall from slipping again.

I have to agree with other posters. I have the cleat type ice grippers that slide over your shoes or boots. I leave them on all winter and gives me a secure feeling when I am outside. I got them either here or Amazon. Reasonably priced.

I have found the very best thing for ice is something called Yak Trax or another ice gripper brand. It is almost impossible to fall since it digs into the ice. However you don't want to wear them in the house since it could damage your floors.
They are a stretchy item that slips on over your shoes or boots. I got mine here many years ago on the Q.
What prompted me to get them was one day when DH was at work I tried to retrieve our trash can from the middle of the street where it had slid after the garbage truck came aound. It was almost impossible for me to get to the bottom of the drive. I saw the presentation and decided to give them a try.
They don't sell that brand here anymore but they do have them on Amazon. The Q offers this right now: F09440.
If it's going to be icy I will wear both my snow boots and those over them.

A pair of good quality snow boots with real rubber bottoms are very good for walking on ice. The rubber soles are made to grip the ice and snow better than most other kinds of soles. Nothing will totally prevent slipping but that's what to look for...vulcanized rubber soles on a snow boot, like snow tires on a car are made of.

@SpikedogSorry to hear about your fall. I wear Skechers boots in the snow & ice. Winter boots should have the traction with deep grooves & pattern on the bottom to help prevent falls. I'm sure there are other brands that have traction on the bottom.
I try very hard to never walk on ice, & I keep ice melt pellets on hand in case I need them for my porch or sidewalk.
