Re: Shoe shopping

That thing is called a Brannock device.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brannock_Device

Almost every shoe store has one even if it is not put out for customers to see. The store might be keeping it in the back somewhere to avoid it "walking" out of the store. Why not ask the store manager if there is one available.

It's pretty much an oxymoron to be that careful about measuring for proper fit and then buying flip flops, which offer no support and are cute but not really much good in any way for walking.

Flip flops can bought in a 99 cent store. But good

athletic shoes must fit properly as you already know. You might consider buying tennis shoes in a sporting goods store. Those shoe departments definitely have Brannocks for good measurements and also a variety of brands of shoes with different lasts and sizing to match your daughter's current foot shape.

The hardest part of your shopping expedition may be getting your teen daughter to like whateer you are willing to buy or you to be willing to buy whatever she decides is right for her!

Hope you find everything you need.

All shoe stores should be able to measure size.

But, if this one doesn't, you could measure your son's feet by having him stand on a wooden or metal ruler making sure his heel is aligned with end of the ruler.  For width, measure the widest part of the ball of his foot.  Look online for foot measurement charts to get his size.

My feet are getting longer as I get older, so I purchased a shoe sizer, the type they use in stores.  I know my size, but it seems manufacturers' shoes often are either too big or too small.  That wasn't the case years ago.

For anyone interested, shoe sizers sell new for about $60-$70, but they can be purchased used for about $30-$40 on ebay.

I would have thanked the sales associate for her help and left.  When he can be more appreciative, then we can shop!
