Shoe Lovers,

Do you have any memories that started your love for shoes?

I think I was born with it or it was contagious and caught it from my mother.

@pprmntstx    Mine started as a child when we got new shoes for Easter.  I still remember the smell of patent leather.

Yes, my dear mother claims it is because of being the first great niece of her childless aunt and uncle...according to my mother, every weekend I would come back with another different color of sneakers or shoes!  Each Saturday, my great aunt and uncle went to Sears with me!  Until the day she died in the 70's, this aunt gave me 20 each Sunday, I worked in the city...

I remember going with mom and sister to buy clogs in the early 70s I was in the 4th grade. They were white leather and my sister got black. They were so cool and they weren't like todays clogs, they were the real deal with the wooden bottoms. I remember clicking all over the neighborhood in them. My sister and I still love and always have a pair of clogs in our closet since then.

Interesting thread, I've never cared about shoes. I honestly have no idea why, possibly because I have a difficult time finding shoes that fit. I wear slippers in the house and sneakers when I am outdoors and walking.

As a teenager, I was very large and had limited amount of clothes to choose from.  I could always get cute shoes though.  I had a wish when I finished school school that I would get a closet full of shoes and get my hair done once a week.  My wish came true.  A girl can always dream.

I remember seeing the first colored shoes, sling backs with a 1 inch square heel and a cute flower on the toe.  My grandmother would say "get a pair of those and fit her please".  She and my GF owned the store.

I got true yellow.  At that time I didn't like pink.

I also got the first pair of deep rubbed caramel colored penny loafers.  The seams were dark rubbed and antiqued.

I STILL LOVE the smell of polished leather!

I remember going downtown with my mother to buy new shoes. We normally went twice a year. There were no suburban shopping malls or shoes stores back then. We rode the city bus.

I remember having to sit down & get fitted by the salesman with the metal shoe guide. My childhood shoes came from the Buster Brown store. I only had one dress shoe (black patent Mary Jane), one school shoe, and one tennis shoe when I was a child.

After I got my new shoes, Mom would go next door to the locally owned shoe store which is where she bought her shoes. The store carried various brands, and I always thought the shoes in there were so beautiful. I remember trying on her “pretty” shoes when she was in another part of the house. 🤫

My shoe buying frenzy started when I began working part time in high school. I had my own money so I could buy what I wanted. We also had suburban malls & shoe stores by that time making it easier to shop. Once I graduated college & began my career, I told myself I needed lots of shoes for work outfits. 😉 I also bought plenty of shoes for non-work outfits. 👠
