I was checking out the birdseye yesterday in the Dooney store and I think I've figured out why this years birdseye doesn't appeal to me. The biggest reason is the trim is the wrong color, it's a light tan leather. There is no contrast between the trim and the fabric of the handbag. The result is it just looks blah. In the birsdeye version of a few years ago the trim was the same color as the fabric weave.... so it provided a pop of color.

In addition the trim is generally very thin strips of leather this year (except the Collins which has a thick handle). The Collins is the nicest of all the designs, but I still don't think it pops. In the past the trim had a lot of leather.

Also the birdseye fabric is thinner than in the past and the weave looks smaller, so there is even less color visible.

OK, so there you have it. My assessment.

If the Collins had colored trim, it would be the nicest of the styles. But with the light tan leather trim, it's a very low key handbag.
