@chrystaltree, Hanes Hosiery had a mid weight semi sheer panty hose that isn't as heavy as tights.  Looks very appropriate.

I wear them all.  Just depends on what I'm wearing.  In the winter months I like either sheer hoisery or tights with dresses/skirts.  Under slacks (depends on how cold it is or not) I might do hoisery under pants.  I can do knee highs too.  I have them all.

I wear trouser socks, heavier knee high socks or ones that can me mid-calf with my ankle boots. The socks don't usually show st all, occasionally a peek at them. I wear my slacks/jeans on the outside of the boot. 

I ordered the HSN Bearpaws bootie today & I might wear slim-cut leg jeans tucked into the boot. I may add a heavier patterned sock worn over the jeans so the top of the socks show over the boots. But, knowing me, I probably won't. lol So me of the models look good with it worn that way.

If I lived up north (live in a warm climete) and needed extra warmth or was wearing the boots with a skirt, I would definitely wear tights. Maybe with heavy tweedy fashion socks over the tights.
