Hi stevieb,

Have a question for you. I received an email from I Love Dooney telling me that my order for the Florentine Edge Satchel was cancelled because all of the ones in stock had too many scratches. I was told it could not be shipped in that condition. In any event I am now eyeing this bag:

Do you think the crimson is too dark a color for late summer/early fall? Would appreciate your opinion.

Thanks, Maria

Hi Maria. What a beautiful bag! I'm probably not the best judge because I rarely do pastels or prints for spring or summer, but tend, within reason, to carry bags based on whatever mood strikes me, regardless of season, though I do try to give at least a passing nod to seasonal choices... Most folks would probably consider this more of a fall and winter bag. Crimson is an almost oxblood color, but with more red than traditional oxblood would have. Personally, I think the red tones would make it workable, especially for moving into fall. So sorry the Edge satchel didn't work out.

Hi stevieb...... I don't do too many pastels for handbags myself. Although I do have a couple lighter bags. I think I am going to go for the crimson. I already have a mini mail bag in crimson. I think the color would go with most of the lighter clothes colors I wear in the summer. Thanks for your opinion. Best, Maria

You're very welcome and I think it's a lovely bag. I think you'll get significant use from it for most of the year.

Yes, I like the bag too (obviously or I would not have ordered it LOL) ... especially like that it has two outside pockets. You are so knowledgable when it comes to handbags! I really value your opinion! I just ordered the bag. Hope I don't get another email stating that my order was cancelled. But I have to give I Love Dooney credit for being honest with me and not sending me a bag that was all scratched. Saved me the trouble of having to send it back.

Anytime I can help, I'm happy to try. I have to admit, I've only ordered from ILD a couple of times, but both items arrived in excellent condition and fairly quickly. I've never had them cancel, but if they truly were refusing to send items in less than pristine condition, then kudos to them. Hoping the crimson satchel arrives soon and in great condition. And yes, I too like the notion of those outside pockets!

My bag arrived last night. I think this one is a keeper. The size is perfect and I like the color in the Florentine leather. The zipper was a still stiff but that might be because the bag was so cold from being on the UPS truck since Friday night. Love the fact that there is an outside pocket.

Glad you got it and that it appears to be a keeper... Love the color and yes, the outside pocket can make a big difference! I'm betting the zipper will loosen up with use. I know several of my Dooneys arrived with zippers that were a bit difficult, but they all worked out. I also recall there being a series of suggestions a while back on this board for how to deal with a recalcitrant zipper, but can't remember what any of the suggestions were... Maybe some of the others recall... Anyone?

Hi stevieb ..... the zipper was already working better yesterday. Haven't touched the bag since. But I am definitely going to keep it.

For difficult zippers the Dooney store uses a piece of wax paper. Just run the waxed side of the paper over bth edges of the zipper on all sides. You can also use a bar of soap or the base of a white candle. Don't use any oils as they can stain the fabric and leather.
