....look around the ATM machine carefully before you do!
In our city, a customer noticed a square metal 'device' called a 'skimmer' attached to the ATM that looked out of place and it turned out to be a device that captures your acct.# from the magnetic strip and the PIN # you enter.
There are more than one kind of these devices. Some transmit the info to the thieves and others store the info in the device, to later be retrieved by the thieves.
Luckily the one found was the type that stores the info, so these customer's accounts were presumed safe since the thieves had not retrieved the device yet.
But who knows how long the device had been there and how many times the info was retrieved and the device replaced?
The particular bank involved said these devices had also been found on some of their banks in Tennessee.
You may want to try to go inside the bank rather than use the ATM, but when that's not possible, check out the ATM machine before you use it!
