Missing real shoe stores where I can pull shoes of various styles,sizes, compare fit, and just plain enjoy the experience.  I have bought V ionic slippers on QVC but only because I have had others. Purchased some online Naturalizers but I am thinking I would have done better if I could have done local.  Just not impressed with online shoe shopping.  No way am I paying return postage!

Re: Missing Box Shoe Stores

There are a couple brands I can always count for fit and quality, but few.  We have a few of the stores you are speaking of but for me they lack the quality and style I like.  Of course there is Macy's.

I could never wear shoes from those chain shoe stores.  Need better quality to fit correctly.  However, I buy better brands online and seem to do fine with them.

Still have DSW and FAMOUS stores near here.   They carry a variety of name brands.

DSW was my go-to shoe store until my feet began to change.  When they reached the magical size 10.5, we became estranged.  Size 11's footbed just were very uncomfortable.

Still I tried but just returned another pair, hoping against hope that they would fit.  Amazing how they have room for 11, 12, etc. but forget about the customers with 10.5.

Now I go online to the shoe website and order direct from them.  Took advantage of several Black Friday shoe sales!

@Twins Mom

Understand totally about the return postage when buying online.

I originally ordered one pair of Clark sandals and found them very comfortable.  So when I saw Rakuten had Clarks on an outstanding cashback offer at a Black Friday a few years ago, I ordered 4 or 5 pairs.....they are a mainstay for me.

Other makers' sizing can vary depending on their manufacturers.  E.g., Easy Spirit, my other standby, uses different makers so I will only buy them locally.  I once found a pair of dark hunter green clogs that were striking....but totally different sizing.  They stayed at the store.  Then, their leather vs fabric clogs are the same story.

I have had zero luck buying shoes online. I only wear SAS so you would think it would be easy. Nope!  Last summer while in the mountains, I decided I wanted a pair of SAS mules. The heel was too low and caused my hip to flare up. I went through the hassle of returning them and said never again. I will wait, go to a store and try them on for fit.

My other shoe is the Jacques Levine slipper. So far, so good ordering from the company itself.

I always wore a 6AAA in my younger days. I would go to a shoe store and ask them to bring out what they had in that size. Only a shoe store even bothers with these narrow sizes. The box stores don't stock them. Even the correct size will have fit issues from style to style and brand to brand.

@jlkz     I guess I am very fortunate!    If it's a 6, it fits.   di

Unfortunately the Macy's by me closed and I miss it terribly.  I could count on usually finding what I liked there, not to mention at a reasonable price.  The Macy's further away is not where I like to drive or a shopping center I like to hang out in.

The Macy’s at the mall near me has a great shoe department. Can always find a pair or two there. Emilda Marcos has nothing on me! 🤣
