I very rarely use my macy's card and have found that if you don't use it for a year, you have to re-apply. It isn't a bit deal, you can do it right at the counter and when re-applying I also got an extra 20% off my purchases. I think I have re-applied for a new card every year for 5 years. I agree it is ridiculous, but...it is what it is.

I had a co-worker years ago (like maybe 10 years) who had a traditional Macy's store card. She had a letter from them stating that Macy's was no longer having their own store card, but all of their cards were being switched to Macy's Visa (or MC, I forget). She had the choice of accepting the new card with all of its terms, or not having a Macy's account any longer. She chose the latter as she neither needed nor wanted another Visa/MC. Most department stores and large online retailers (Amazon, Best Buy, etc.) have gone this way. QVC probably does the same. So when you get dinged for a late payment or have any sort of negative experience, people get angry with the retailer, but it's really the credit bank they have chosen to handle their accounts that is being annoying, unreasonable, etc.

So you used a debit card for the purchase and the debit shows up on your bank account but they cancelled your order???So what about a refund of the amount they debited???

The rep I spoke to said that it appears on my account because they had to secure the funds. She said they had cancelled the order and it was up to my bank to remove the charge. I checked today and the charge was still there as pending. At the end of the day, it is Macy's that is the loser. I will end up buying the bag somewhere else (hopefully QVC), but I will never shop at Macy's again. They lost a potential customer....and I shop a lot!

Hmmm. I still have and use a "traditional" Macy's card - not affiliated with Visa, MC or AmEx. I use it in the store & online. Have used it within the past couple of weeks.

I still have and use a regular store type Macy's account also. I never got anything saying it was being converted to a Visa or MC
