When I received my natural ostrich, I thought the same thing, a defective strap. Then I realized the overlap is continuing the seeming look and the underside would be uncomfortable if it overlapped where the strap rests on the shoulder. I also ordered the black and the strap on my black bag is the same so yours is not defective but just the way it should be.
