Re: Is Dooney & Bourke skimping on QVC bags

I was in the Dooney Outlet one day and the girl pointed out a bag to a customer and she said "that bag was made for QVC" I recognized it as a TSV. I doubt others, unless stated, are especially made for QVC.

Re: Is Dooney & Bourke skimping on QVC bags

Sometimes a handbag is customized for a big customer... whether QVC or a department store. That might involve adding or deleting certain features or cost trade-offs to meet a certain price point. Or sometimes the handbag is made in a different type of leather or fabric for a specific customer. But sometimes it includes additional features. I have a Dooney satchel that I bought directly from Dooney in one color, and in a department store in another color. I saw the 'same' style on QVC... but the Q version had an outside back zip pocket. I think the Q version was better!

I have to agree! I bought a Dooney TSV last year that had outside side pockets that their regular version didn't have. I saw the non Q version in the department stores and I didn't think it was as nice. No outside pockets I don't buy!

Pagan if you love a particular bag in a brand you like, why would you be ashamed to carry it if it's only available on QVC? And if you love it, why would you worry about resale value? I buy fashion and accessories because I like wearing them...

I agree on all counts. If I like it, I don't care where it came from and if I like it, I'm not worried about whether or not I can re-sell it.

Re: Is Dooney & Bourke skimping on QVC bags

Ok...depends on the bag.

OP: If you truly love something, buy it, wear it. Whatever. Who cares where the bag came from? Unless you care about what some snobby clerk says. Most of those people can't afford the bags they sell. Most of the DB bags sold on the Q are the same. The TSVs are bound to have issues.

You know, I have carried the "Q specials" and received compliments on them. Other people buy them, too. If I think something is shoddy, looks ugly, I don't buy it.

The bottom line is you should be buying what you like and not worrying if some else likes it or is "impressed" with you. Life is too short.

Where I'm from, Dooney isn't a big deal: LV, Prada and Chanel are. Then they check to see if you are carrying a fake.

D&B have the trade in program. Do they take Q bags for credit?

I'm the same way, sorry. I won't buy a Dooney bag from the Q.

I cannot associate spending that kind of money with a home shopping channel. Special configurations are made for the Q but to get that price, they need to skimp somewhere, there is no one that can convince me that the Q gives anything to anyone.

I don't want a return, I don't want it packaged loose in a box, I want care and concern, I want a nice cardboard box, I want all the packaging and unless I buy one from the very first airing, there's no guarantee that I get this (aside from the box issue)

Call me crazy.

Hi nantucket ..... most, but of course not all, Dooney's sold by the Q can be purchased for the exact same price directly from the Dooney Website. The difference is that Dooney does not charge shipping costs on items costing over $100.00. Dooney used to have ez pay but discontinued it back in December. I have about 14 Dooney's ...but have only purchased one from the Q because I could not find it on the Dooney website. It is a leather satchel with accessories. I use the bag quiet a bit .... and the quality of the leather is good. Also many websites, like Macy's, have occasional sales on bags that are sold on the Q. So if you shop around you can probably get much better deals on Dooney's elsewhere.

It doesn't matter where you bought a Dooney handbag or it's condition, Dooney will accept it for trade in.

Re: Is Dooney & Bourke skimping on QVC bags

I haven't purchased a Dooney item since the 80's because I haven't had too, the three all weather leather purses I own have stood the test of time. (Plus I take good care of them, they were a huge investment) So during this last Dooney fest on QVC, I noticed a new wallet/wristlet that I ordered on impulse. When it arrived the other day, I was shocked at how cheaply made the wallet is compared to the Dooney quality I've been spoiled by all these years. Then I came to the forums to see if others felt this way, and sure enough many do.

And Pagan, I get your post. I respect your honesty. The internet has made it possible for us to consider resale value when we make a high-end purchase. A reputable resale website for vintage Dooney is at horsekeepingdotcom. Also, it's been discussed over and over again on these boards how many manufactures/vendors are laughing all the way to the bank.
