@scatcat wrote:Seems a little excess, unless you are are runner. I've heard 7.5 months if you are running 10 miles a week (every 300 miles)
Also it's interesting you call them sneakers. We call them gym shoes around here.
@scatcat around here, people refer to them as tennies but I mostly heard them called running shoes or sneakers before we moved to Texas.

I remember back in the 80's when I was doing "aerobics" 3 to 4 days a week, our instructors used to say we should replace our sneakers every six months. I used to get a year out of mine because I thought they still looked to be in good shape and because I'd buy shoes that were on the pricier side. I didn't realize that, even though shoes can look great on the outside (especially when worn mostly indoors) the structural support on the inside gets worn out.
How often you replace your shoes should really depend on the type and frequency of the activities you're using them for. Because I wore mine longer than I should have, I ended up with shin splints and foot problems. I just always had a problem with disposing of shoes that still "looked good".

An avid runner would - even if they still look good because the constant pounding on the pavement, heat and sweating can break down the fit your feet need to avoid issues. I get at least 2 new pairs a year and walk with my dog 2.5 -5 miles daily. Years with very little rain or snow, a pair of good sneakers will show tread wear and not give me the support my feet need after a few months from all that walking but if weather wet or lot of ice, snow and rain where I cannot walk nearly every day then they will last longer. My feet usually indicate when it's time. Most here do not run or walk much if at all other than shopping and a little bit every so many days so it's kind of obvious that would not apply.

I clock a LOT of miles since I'm a walker. Yes, I should replace mine about every 3 months. I walk so much that I have totally worn down the bottoms. There's a certain brand of shoes I like and have already stocked up when they've gone on sale. Love walking!

@ID2 I'm a walker, too, and should replace my sneakers every 3-4 months. I tend to keep them for a year. Then when I put on a new pair, I realize how much more comfortable the new ones are.
Do you walk every day and how far do you go? I'm every day no matter what the weather from 3-4 miles.

I haven't replaced a pair in probably 10 years because I don't wear them unless some occasion calls for it. They are uncomfortable and clunky to me, and the big old soles that stick out have caused me to fall on staircases twice when the heel caught.
I really despise wearing them. Keds are ok.

There isn't any pair of footwear that I wear on a daily basis without rotating with another identical pair (or pairs). No one should be wearing the same shoes day in and day out for two days - never three months. It's gross! What is Jane thinking?

I have never heard that before and I have sneakers that I have worn for years and they still look and feel good and give good support. I am sure for some who walk daily (I don't) maybe they need to replace them at a certain point but every 3 months? Is that doctor recommended? Just curious
Lol, I guess some hosts will say anything. I am sure people who exercise a lot are smart enough to know when to replace their shoes. I have never heard this before. I guess is you replace them when they wear out. Or you just want a new pair.![]()

I replace my Brooks athletic shoes in the 15-24 month range.

Every year. I have 5 or 6 pair ready for this year. Spenco, Skechers, Croc sneakers.
