How does waitlist work?

Found a bag I like in the clearance section, the leather trimmed woven mini crossbody in Emerald. First of all, why is there only 1 color? I happened to want the green so I ordered it on waitlist. My 4th Dooney, but first that is not all leather. Will I get it? Why does a clearance item go on waitlist if they're not getting it anymore or it sold out?
