I have some Sketchers and Easy Spirit fabric shoes that need a cleaning.

Can I put in the washing machine?  Do I need to add any other

type of clothing/towels?

I have a machine that does not have the center agitator.

Any tips?    Also could you some help on drying too.

Re: How do you wash/dry shoes?

I wash my Easy Spirit Traveltime shoes in the washer, either alone or with other clothes. I set them out on the floor for a day or so to dry. I live in a very dry climate.

You can machine wash, but it's recommended to hang to dry.

I would put in with towels, etc., rather than listen to them 'thump' around in the washer by themselves.

Re: How do you wash/dry shoes?

I've washed tennis shoes before and had no issues.  I spray with stain remover (if needed), and air dry.  I wouldn't put them in the dryer, just open them up as much as you can, and let them air dry for a couple of days.

My feeling was they were so dirty, that even if I ruined them, I wasn't going to wear them again anyway if I couldn't clean them.  I had great luck in getting them clean by putting them in the washing machine - I just did two pair at one time, with nothing else in the machine but the shoes and a little bit of liquid laundry soap.  You could probably use dish soap as well, just don't use too much soap.

I just wipe the outside and inside with a disinfecting wipe.

I do the same thing and often they are dry that same day. I have also placed them outside to dry. They are then dry in a few hours.

I wash tennis shoes with towels. I have a boot dryer that I put shoes on to dry.

I can't imagine putting shoes in with any other articles, e.g., clothing, towels.  Although I have some "washable" shoes, e.g, Bzees, I am not going to wash them.  The idea just does not appeal to me.

Re: How do you wash/dry shoes?

Remove any othotics or footbed liners.  Can even remove laces if they need an extra washing.  I run a little warm water and laundry detergent in the bathtub and scrub the shoes gently with a nylon brush or a rag. I've even removed spots with a bit of shampoo.  Rinse well, put in the washer on spin, stuff them with wads of newspaper, remove newspaper in a few hours after it absorbs moisture.  Leave outside in a shady spot with good air circulation.  Or you can even hang them on the clothesline if you have one.  Our garage is very hot overnight, so I let them rest in the garage overnight to finish drying.

Doing them in the sink would be easier, but shoes in the kitchen sink doesn't appeal to me.  I don't want them in my washer either except to spin. Good project to do with more than one pair since it does take some time and effort.

I've wondered if spraying the shoes with Scotchguard would keep them clean longer.

I wash my Easy Spirits and hubby's Rockports right in the washer - air dry on a towel.
