What is the difference between a medium and wide width shoe? I am considering a wide, but usually buy the medium. I just want a particular shoe and the only choice in a 6 is in a wide width. Unless anyone is looking to return the red and navy Marc Fisher bootie with open toe!! Lol Thanks!!

There is about 1/4 inch difference.

Here's what I find for me. Typically I wear a 7M but If I find a shoe that's not in my size, I can usually go to a 6.5W and it will work just fine for me. Not exactly sure why but it does.
I LOVE skechers and when I first started buying them I would get size 7M. Lately however my 7M has been too big so I'll return for size 6M and they fit perfectly. Not sure what's happened with this brand but it makes me second guess myself with what size to get. If I really want the shoes, I will opt to return for a smaller size. If the brand is something other than skechers and they're too big, I'll return but will not buy a smaller size - just not that important or they just don't grab me enough to opt for a smaller size.
I HATE needing to return things when they don't fit and they should - SO annoying, whether they're shoes or garments.

I thank you so much for providing the chart. It clarified quite a bit for me. I went ahead and bought the new Marc Fisher boots and since the red an navy were sold out in the 6m I figured I'd choose the 6w. Hope it works!!

Hi Pinkdogwood,
I appreciate your response and absolutely agree with returning items! Ugh! I wanted the Marc Fisher new open toe boots that I am taking a chance with the 6w when I am normally a 6w. I pray it fits well because I'd hate to miss out on the red and navy. They are gorgeous boots!! I agree with the oddities in shoe sizing. I wear from a 6 to a 6 1/2 and sometimes a 7 if the fit isn't right. Thanks!!!

A lot of times I can wear a 7.5W shoe in Clarks or Naturalizer. I have shoes in sizes 7.5W, 8M, 8W, and 8.5M. These sizes would be without wearing socks. In boots with socks like wi ter boots I go up a size to a 9. I even have some size 10 boots that I think were mis sized.
