Hardware tarnished on Michael Kors tote

About 10 years ago I purchased a tote by Michael Kors. It was my first 'good' bag (cost me about $350 which was a lot of money at the time). It has a lot of silver-toned hardware that is now badly tarnished, effectively making the bag useless. I tried polishing the hardware but it does nothing. The hardware must be a weird metal. Should I contact the company? I do not have proof of purchase.
