Wow, I'm sort of surprised... I guess they just rarely televise any of the less costly bags... Time is money, you know...

By the way, FM, I picked up the Sutton tote... and really like it. I wouldn't pay full price for it, but I do like it... It's a big bag, but not a huge one. Because the bottom sort of keeps expanding, the shape can be a bit odd, but glad I finally got one... The strap leather is very nice and overall, I'm pleased. The as-is turned out to be fine, or at least if there are problems I haven't noticed them yet. Again though, this isn't a bag for which I'd pay the full freight... Keep your eyes peeled for another as-is...

I won't spend over $275 and that includes with the tax and shipping. There was a time when I could not afford a bag that price. But I love my Dooney bags and really enjoy them. I use to buy Tig bags and still have a few that I love. I don't care that the handles and trim are not leather on Tig bags. They still hold up with use.

Thanks, Stevie. I'm glad you are happy with it, and am grateful for the information. I will keep looking for a deal; I had a feeling it wasn't going to be worth the full monty.

SOME handbags are costly, but there are plenty of brands and sources offering bags at more reasonable prices. TJ Maxx is a good source for quality handbags, and you can often find nice bags on sale in department and specialty stores as well as in discount and off-price stores like TJ's, Ross, and Marshall's. I usually spend under $50 for handbags and get good use out of them.

Last week, I found a Tig crossbody (purple) pebble leather bag in my closet, that I had purchased at Macy's when I was living in FL back in 2008. It was an especially special gift for me because the Pain Management Dr., in the Practice that hired me shortly after I moved there, gave me a $25 Macy's Gift Card for Christmas that year.

I hadn't been to a Macy's since I was very young (My Dad took me to the one in NYC when I was 7 y/o), and I was eager to buy myself a nice looking, functional bag for work PLUS it had to be rain resistant due to the weather (pop up T-Storms). It fit the bill, and was on sale for under $50, including tax. After the Holidays, I showed him what I bought with his gift card -- he was impressed ! I always thought of that bag, as *The J Bag* (his initial).

It is still in good shape, but the thick metal zippers needed tweeking and a bar of soap along with reworking/realigning them did the trick. I noticed that a part of the long strap had white on it (actually the purple "manmade" material had peeled off), so I took a chance and used a Purple Permanent Sharpie Pen to "revive" it -- Perfect Match ! {#emotions_dlg.w00t}

By the way, I got a beautiful B. Makowski (am I spelling that right? LOL) on eBay for only a $70 offer and they accepted it.

There are a lot of purses less than $300. I think that is something QVC is pretty good at offering (different price ranges).

I'm finished with the $300 bags. I only have a couple that were actually in the mid to upper $200's. I just gave one away that I hated after the 30 days, and another that looks terrible - too soft a leather with folds in it (it just is so soft it looks sloppy). It's a light color which got filthy immediately. I will probably not use it anymore. I just got out a blueberry Tignanello Saffiano leather bag from last year and in one afternoon, four people complimented me on it. I just ordered another Tignanello Saffiano bag in sunny yellow for summer. I don't even care that the straps aren't leather.

I do have a cute D&B (mid $200's) that was a TSV. It's a really nice bag and doesn't get dirty looking.

I'm just not spending a lot any more. I'm not in that league and with only 30 days to decide if it works for me, that's not acceptable. If I'm spending that much, it's going to be at a department store with a longer return period.

Do you ever go thrift store shopping? I have bought several of good brand handbags for very little.

I even found ""Coach"" at a second hand store.
