Florentine Leather- smooth or pebbled?

I got a black florentine purse 2 months ago as a gift for Christmas. Mine has a pebbled/textured look to it and I noticed a lot of other florentine dooneys have a smooth texture. Does anyone know why this is so? Are there any opinions on which is better? I wear a lot of lotions and makeup and I think the pebbled florentine picks it more and tends to look dirtier. And the textured just looks drier to me and the smooth looks shinier.

Here are some random photos I found on the internet that kinda shows the difference of what I'm talking about.

Re: Florentine Leather- smooth or pebbled?

Florentine leather can be either smooth or pebbled. Each piece of leather is unique. I've seen the same style Florentine handbag, in the same color in the Dooney store.... one was pebbled and one was textured. Most ladies prefer the look and feel of the smooth. But from experience I will tell you that the smooth shows more scratches and marks. And in lighter colors, the smooth will show the dirt much more quickly. The pebbled leather appears to be more durable.

It's too bad you can't choose which one you want when you order.

Beautiful bag either way. Enjoy it!

As someone else mentioned, the pebble leather won't show as much wear.

Re: Florentine Leather- smooth or pebbled?

It's the luck of the draw. When buying Florentine, I do prefer the smooth, since I can usually obtain the same silhouette in pebble from another Dooney line for less, but they're both beautiful and I'm not usually too particular about getting one or the other. It seems, the only way to ensure you get your have a preference, if you have one, is to shop at a store or see if one of the Dooney retail stores or outlets will hand pick a bag for you in the texture you choose.

Re: Florentine Leather- smooth or pebbled?

The pebbled leather on the Florentine looks like cellulite! For the price of the Flo, it should be smooth leather throughout...like the Alto bags are. JMHO

I purchased a quilted Flo bag from the I Love Dooney site, and it has one small area of pebbled leather on the backside (so it doesn't show) -- I saved over $100 on it ( with free ship & no tax). Belk's Flo's look like they went through the war (and the salesgirl laughed when I asked about a Discount)!?!?!? Well, they lost my business & so the Flo's remain (not marked down)...

Stevie is correct - the only way to find what you like/want is to see it in person.

I hate the way the smooth bags age. The pebbled gets better and better. I have both but hands down pebbled.
