Dillen Satchel and Its Odor

My husband purchased a Dillen Satchel in Emerald for me on the 12 DOD for Christmas. The bag is beautiful but it has an unusual odor. I believe this handbag is leather but it sure doesn't smell like it - has anyone experienced this and what's the best way to remove the smell? Thanks!
