I looked at my clarks sandals and they were a size 9 and my closed in toes clarks shoes were 8.5.  Is that pretty normal for everyone?

I usually buy a 7 1/2 wide in sandals but a 8 medium in closed toes.  But it depends on the brand/style of shoe.

I wear a size 8 shoe but often prefer a 7.5 sandal.

I usually wear an 8.5 in a closed shoe and a 9 in a sandal. Many sandals only come in whole sizes, so I size up.

I get 8.5 in both, unless only whole sizes ... and then I get a 9.

I have many pairs of Alegria sandals.  I always order a 10 in the sandals and my normal size 11 in closed toe shoes.

I've always heard that most people go up a half size up in a closed shoe. That's usually how it works for me.

I may size up for closed shoes because my feet are "tall" and my big toe is big.  not sure why you would size down for closed shoes.  can you wiggle your toes in them? I don't recommend cramming your feet in smaller shoes, leads to foot problems.

For me, it depends upon the maker.  A thong style sandle can be an 8, an enclosed heel, 8 1/2.  Some sandles have such a narrow foot bed in the front, my foot goes over on both sides.  I'm a medium or just a tad wider, nothing unusual.

Annother aspect is the person's feet.  If your second toe is longer, you will have to buy a longer enclosed shoe.
