How do you choose your shoes for your outfits?
With the exception of jeans. I usually wear the same color shoe as my pant. I like the streamlined look of uninterrupted color which is elongating. If I'm wearing a dress or skirt with bare legs I usually wear a shoe close to my skin tone to elongate my line. If I'm wearing black tights with a knee length dress or skirt in cold weather I wear black boots for an unbroken line in color.
My shoe color choices are very classic, and I guess some would say boring. I only own solid color shoes in the basic colors. Several years ago I had a navy printed ballet flat and a leopard ballet flat. I loved those, but they finally were so worn I had to throw them away. I never replaced them. I bought a pair of red shoes once, but I never wore them.
I love looking at all the beautiful shoes in various colors and prints, but the reality is I just wouldn't wear them very often. I think part of the reason is I like my shoes to blend in with my outfits rather than stand out. I also like wearing printed tops so wearing a printed shoe at the same time wouldn't work as well IMO.
Are you a basic or more adventurous shoe person?

I'm a basic. Sensible shoes have entered my life after a broken ankle and a knee replacement. Neutral colors, navy, black, brown. Keen is my current favorite brand, somewhat clunky, but they have good support and don't wear out.

I have dozens of shoes in all colors. All are flats since that's all I can wear. Most are solid colors except for a collection of fun sneakers I wear with jeans. I've got a bandanna print in red, a daisy print, Southwest designs, stripes, stars, tie dye, flower prints, to name a few.

Currently I'm living in a pair of hot pink foam slides ($20 Amazon); they match my le Sportsac hot pink shoulder bag. Everything else is basic neutrals. Surprisingly I have received non stop compliments everywhere I go, both in Show Low and in Phoenix. I went back to Amazon and reordered, this time in lime green and a medium blue, with flowers. I originally bought these because they are indestructible, especially in monsoon season ( 11 inches so far this season).

About 5 years ago, I found a pair of sandals that were PERFECT. I bought every pair the store had......I will never have to buy summer shoes again for the rest of my life.

My sandals today show 7 colors and I would buy them again if they were available in these colors. I do pretty much confine them to the days my outfits are quite plain.

Hi @wilma Like you, I match my shoes to my long pants if I can. Dark shoes don't have to exact match. For shorter pants and dresses, I usually wear nude or light colored shoes (I am a medium olive skin tone - look for something that extends the look of the leg). But I do wear a lot of black, and sometimes I like the look of black shoes and sandals with my black or predominantly black dresses and shorter pants.
I do this because I am only 5'1". If I was taller I would be more adventurous...

@wilma Your shoe selection sounds perfect to me. When I was working I did the same thing. I wore a pair of red heels to work once and felt uncomfortable all day. I'm more casually dress these days but in the summer I enjoy flip flops, sandals and sneakers in fun colors and patterns.

Usually, I try to elongate the line of my leg with a shoe color to match the pant. Sometimes I like a colored shoe.
My shoe depends on the color I am wearing and also the season. I have mostly black shoes/boots in winter.

I don't have a "rule." There are too many variables .... all I do is "eyeball" them.
Whatever looks good with the pants and is appropriate for where I'm going and what I'm going to do when I get there.
And - weather has an impact on choice.
I have a lot of shoes in many different colors and styles.
