It totally depends on the brand and style to me.  The burnishing on the suede boots today look dirty to me too, but the black pair look cool.  But I have enough black boots....

I like it very much; gives it a kind of a weathered or 'antiqued' appearance.

Also like it on handbags and other leather accessories.

 

Burnishing looks extra nice on medium brown shades, like cognac for example.

Nope, don't care for it at all as I like my boots to look new for as long as possible. That burnished design has stopped me from buying a couple TSVs. Hmmmm, maybe that's a good thing. . .
