Re: Any tips for how to win bids on eBay?

I am a buyer and also a seller with "top rated seller" rating. As far as bidding, if there are no bids some potential bidders tend to watch the auction until it is almost over before placing a bid. Placing a bid early sometimes draws bidding wars. It all depends how bad you want an item and how many others want it. I always set a limit with bidding. I tend to do do more buy now or make an offer. Good luck with your bidding

Re: Any tips for how to win bids on eBay?

I have purchased over 300 items on Ebay. If I want something really bad I always place the highest bid I will pay first. I have lost very few auctions and have always got the auction below what I bid. Usually it will be vintage or one of a kind item. Other items if it goes over what I bid I just wait for another.

How does ""make an offer"" work? Can you still continue to bid as well or are you locked into the offer you made?

Once you make an offer and it's accepted, you're obligated to make the purchase so be serious about what you're doing.

All sales are not "best offer" sales. These are usually a "buy it now or best offer". Email the seller with your best offer. I usually offer to buy for 20% off the buy it now price. The seller can take a couple of days to accept or reject, in the meantime someone else may buy it now. The seller can also counter you with what they will accept. And you may accept or reject that.

I also snipe at the last 30 seconds, bidding my highest bid I'm comfortable with. If you bid your highest even an hour early, it just gives the seller time to make sure the item is bid all the way up to your highest dollar amount. How can someone's bestfriend ever be caught shill bidding. I don't risk it anymore (535 ebay purchases).

Re: Any tips for how to win bids on eBay?

I usually put in a low bid early on, then manually (not using some special service) I put in my highest price as a snipe bid with about 8 seconds remaining. When you've been outbid many times by last minute/second snipers, then you resort to being a sniper yourself. Just know ahead of time what the highest price is that you're willing to pay. Don't get caught up in a bidding war. For example - I've seen people pay more for books on ebay than they would have had to pay on Amazon.com for a brand new book. If you hate the actual process of bidding, than purchase items with the "buy it now" feature, there are still some good prices available that way. I have also used the "make an offer" feature, though I find that many sellers aren't willing to lower the price very much. Still - it can be worth a try.

I use www.gixen.com it's free. You just log on with your ebay pass word and user name. Put in the item number and the highest amount you are willing to pay. They will place the bid at the last few seconds. I have won many items this way. That way you don't have to sit and watch the clock and bid the last minute. It's done for you. I win more items using gixen instead of getting into that bidding frenzy. Try it. You have got nothing to loose. Good Luck!

If I really want something I use "" buy it now"" and I don't have to keep checking it or get into a bidding war at the end.
