save the cooking water and then whenever you reheat the potatoes, add a bit of it them. it makes them taste really good.

Thanks for the tip - I never thought of that. My mom used to use some of the potato cooking water to make gravy.

for us....
after draining the water, return the potaoes to the pan an cook a bit to remove moisture before mashing

went to the grocery store today and could not find one yukon gold potato.....not in a bin, not in a bag. i need to make ten pounds of mashed potatoes so i am off to another grocery store tomorrow. this will be my third grocery store in three days.

I use the starchy water to help mash the potatoes and make any type of gravy. I don’t put milk in my mashed potatoes, and the starch helps thicken whatever type of gravy I make.
