searching for a particular pineapple upside-down cake recipe

I'm looking for a pineapple upside-down cake recipe that features a very bland cake portion that would almost remind you of shortcake. I don't need help with the pineapple part, but the cake I'm thinking of was so perfect because it didn't fight the pineapple. It was in an old cookbook of my mother's, but the book was inadvertently given away.

If anyone even has a recipe for a nice neutral cake (dense), I would appreciate it!
