? on using apple pie filling vs. fresh apples

I made a recipe the other day which called for 1 cup of sliced apples - well, I used the can pie filling (I rinsed them of the gel) and the cake is OVER moist - its yummy but a little soggy.

Could it be from using pie filling - and if I do it again, any suggestions besides reg. peeled apples.
