meringue trouble

whenever i make my coconut cream pies and i put the meringue on, the pies start to weep i have to keep them on a cookie sheet or else i have a big puddle of goo on my counter or in the fridge? any thoughts or ideas what i might be doing wrong??? thanks! Lori
