found a new to me cooking base

[ Edited ]

I found a product by GOYA called  Sofrito Tomato cooking base---it has green peppers, onions, something called culantro(cilantro?) garlic and olive oil in it.Says its for rice, beans,soups,chili and stews. No carbs  and 30 mgs of salt per tsp. I put about 1/4 cup in my red pasta sauce and meatballs last night and wow was it good! Just wondering if anyone uses it and for what.

It sounds really good.  We have very few Goya products around here, so I'll add it to my next Amazon order.

I've used it for a couple of years now.   What a times saver!

And altho it's a "canned" product it tastes fresh.

When I open a new jar, whatever I don't use gets transfered to a freezer container & it goes in my freezer until I need it again

I live near Tampa Fl and this is very popular in all the Cuban, Puerto Rico and Caribbean dishes served.

Some choose to make their own sofrito, some use the jarred stuffl  Very Good!!!

Thanks for the suggestion @wagirl   !!

I just added it to my Wally cart for my next order.  Only 1.98 for a 16oz jar.

Our Weg and Tops carry a lot of Goya products, but I never noticed it before.

I've never had that, but I do like their Maria cookies.

@wagirl

Cilantro is in most produce departments and can easily be mistaken for parsley.

We use fresh cilantro in our homemade salsa.

@ECBG --yes I know what cilantro is just never saw it spelled that way. Not a huge fan of it tho.
