McCormick's Gourmet Herbes de Provence is another blend that could be duplicated, at least roughly, at home..........includes primarily rosemary, marjoram, thyme, savory plus possibly other ingredients not mentioned on the container.

The Spice Islands brand of Herbes de Provence does not list the specific spices but does say it contains lavender.

Re: beau monde spice

[ Edited ]

Personally, I think it is very important.  Last year I was frantic as I had just a little left and none of the stores here had it.  I searched online and decided on this recipe.  Fortunately, I still had some original Beau Monde so I could taste, adjust until I was pleased. The ‘castor sugar’  is powdered sugar (in case you didn’t know). I included the note I made on my thoughts on original recipe.  It takes very few ingredients.

Ingredients

2 tablespoons onion powder
2 tablespoons celery salt
1 tablespoon caster sugar or 1 tablespoon icing sugar
**tasted original and this recipe. This recipe is quite acceptable however I added about ¼ t. MORE of Onion Powder and Celery Salt, husband thought it needed it. Ether way, both good since Spice Island Beau Monde is quite difficult to find and also expensive!
Directions

Toss it in a jar with about 6 - 10 grains of rice if you live in a humid environment and plan on opening and shutting the jar a few times over a couple of months. Shake it up good, that's pretty much it.

There is a brand called Spice Islands (yellow label) that you can find in the supermarket. Target may have it as well. My cousin's wife used to make a dip in a bread bowl and used Beaumonde seasoning in the sour cream-mayo dip. It was awesome. I think she used a few other things as well maybe celery seeds or dill. The dip was so delicious that I practically made a meal of it.

@withaK This is exactly the recipe I am making. LOL WalMart didn't have it, so tomorrow I am heading to Safeway or Albertsons.

I especially noticed Beau Monde seasoning at Kroger's today, after seeing this thread.  Beware........it's a very expensive concoction, so I guess you'd better decide how often you'll use it before it reaches an expiration date.

I toss out a huge amount of expired herbs and spices every year.  I need to get that under better control!

Me too.......NY Resolution !!!!! I think I may try to find five or six recipes that I want to try before I buy a new spice. That may keep me in check.....lol

@pattypeep

For years, I've stored  the official Spice Islands Beau Monde dip recipe in my collection, but I make a similar  and very favorite one with ingredients that I can readily use in other dishes throughout the year.  Both are posted below.

SPICE ISLANDS BEAU MONDE DIP

2/3 cup mayonnaise

2/3 cup sour cream

1 tablespoon chopped green onion

1 tablespoon Spice Islands Parsley Flakes

1/2 teaspoon Spice Islands Beau Monde Seasoning (yes, only 1/2 teaspoon of a very expensive ingredient!!)

1/2 teaspoon Spice Islands Dill Weed

Mix all, cover and chill at least 30 minutes to blend flavors.  Serve with crackers and vegetables.

Here's my favorite and often-served alternative, which I don't  measure out exactly, but just prepare "to taste."........

Dill Weed and Onion Dip

Roughly half-and-half mayo and sour cream

Generous amount of dried onion flakes (which after a while will soften in the  mix)

Generous amount of dried parsley and dried dill weed.

(I generally use McCormick's brand of dried onions, herbs and spices)

Salt & pepper

Mix all and refrigerate to blend flavors.

I will be honest and tell you it's not likely I will find beau monde pre-made, spice-wise in my area. I've thrown the dice and as a lot of you say it costs money to mix your own spices, so I've made garam marsala and it wasn't really something that I enjoyed more than a wet dog in front of a heater. But then again I am probably the worlds worst apprentice apothecary.

I have never heard of this spice, until now.
