Your Thoughts On A BLT Salad

We're having a card party this weekend and I always set out some food. DH's brother loves pasta salads so I've made many varieties(ham, crab, tuna....). Well now I've found a recipe which calls for adding bacon, romaine, and cherry tomatoes to the pasta. Does lettuce mixed in with the bow-tie pasta sound weird to you? I'm tempted to leave the romaine out (it gets added right before serving).

Although I see how it may see romaine + pasta may seem wierd, I think the romaine will actually make the salad.

Keep the recipe as written, I bet it will be great.

Bowties mixed with a salad would be absolutely yummy! What time are you serving? I will be there. Woman Very Happy

Re: Your Thoughts On A BLT Salad

I have a similar recipe that includes peas:

16-oz box cooked and cooled medium shell pasta

1 lb bacon, chopped into 1/2" pieces

1 cup mayonnaise (I prefer light)

1 cup Ranch salad dressing  (I prefer light)

1/2 cup chopped onion

2 cups chopped tomatoes

2 cups thawed peas

Fry and drain bacon.  Stir together mayonnaise, dressing, onion, tomatoes, and peas in big bowl.  Stir in pasta and chill in fridge.  Sprinkle bacon on top just before serving.

@AuntG a store by me has a version of this on their salad bar and it is delicious.  I would give it a try!

Re: Your Thoughts On A BLT Salad

@AuntG  I see nothing wrong with the recipe; however, if you're still skittish, consider making the salad without the Romaine, but serving it atop the lettuce leaves (I'd remove the thickest ribs first.).

Strive for respect instead of attention. It lasts longer.

Re: Your Thoughts On A BLT Salad

It sounds good and if you are concerned why not just do a salad bar with all different things to go in it. I do that for my Bunco parties and everyone loves it!
