Whole Foods Tuna Salad, Weight Watcher Recipe

[ Edited ]

Looking at the tuna discussion, I thought others might like to see this recipe I make often.  One cup is 205 calories.  Freestyle points 4, Smart points 5.

I love this on lettuce or in a sandwich!  I just made it yesterday.

Whole Foods Tuna Salad, Skinny Version

Ingredients

1 (5.25 oz) can of white albacore tuna, (water packed) drained well

½ cup chopped apples, such as Gala, Fuji or Honeycrisp, unpeeled

⅓ cup celery, chopped

¼ cup diced scallions or red onions

3 tablespoons dried sweetened cranberries

3 tablespoons Best Foods Light mayonnaise (Hellman’s Light)

1 tablespoon minced fresh dill (Edit: I think that's a little much so I use much less and sprinkle the dill on top)

1 tablespoon lemon juice

2 romaine lettuce leaves, optional

Instructions

1. Add all the ingredients to a bowl, except lettuce. Mix well to combine.

2. Scoop about 1 cup of tuna into a small dish or bowl. Or, line 2 plates with a romaine lettuce leaf. Scoop about 1 cup tuna onto each lettuce leaf.

Makes 2 servings (each serving, about 1 cup)

Really, @Group 5 minus 1?  Where's the sugar?  Maybe a little in the cranberries, I don't know, but you can also get unsweetened cranberries.

There are only 205 calories in a cup, there can't be much sugar to come up with only that amount.  No?

There is 11 grams of sugar in this recipe. I am sure most of it is in the apple and cranberries. I would omit the cranberries or cut the amount. This sound like a great protein packed lunch. Thank you Noel7 for posting.

Hi @godi

I'm glad you mentioned that, I looked into it, also.  This recipe calls for sweetened cranberries, UNsweetened are also available, I get ours at Trader Joe's.

I found the 11 gram report, also, here's info on what is acceptable in an average diet:

According to the American Heart Association (AHA), the maximum amount of added sugars you should eat in a day are : Men: 150 calories per day (37.5 grams or 9 teaspoons). Women: 100 calories per day (25 grams or 6 teaspoons).May 27, 2017

Re: Whole Foods Tuna Salad, Weight Watcher Recipe

If I did the math correctly, the sugar count for 3 T of UNsweetened cranberries is 7.5 grams.  You would have to eat an entire cup of the tuna salad for that.

Feel free to check my math, anyone, it's not my strong suit but I think it's correct.
