White cake frosting that's cooked and stiff

My cousin has been trying to re-create a frosting recipe that her mother-in-law (my aunt) used to make years ago. She is an excellent cook, but hasn't been able to duplicate this. All we know about it is that it was cooked and had a firm, stiff consistency (oh, and that it was white). Would any of you cooks out there have a recipe for this frosting from many years ago? Thanks for any help you can provide.
