Re: What's your main dish this year?

I like to do a very small beef and pork roast oven roasted together and sides of simple mashed potatoes and some veggie.   By the time we have Christmas dinner we do not have room for too much more food.

Quiche Lorraine for Christmas Eve, and smoked turkey breast for Christmas Day. We aren't crazy about beef and most hams are too big, and you eat them forever.

We're not that into ham either but Honey Baked has sliced ham in 1lb packages if you just want a bit to serve.

I will be making a vegan lasagna, homemade garlic breadsticks, and salad.

Re: What's your main dish this year?

Since we celebrate Christmas Day dinner with my in-laws and other relatives, Christmas Eve is reserved for church and just quiet dinner with my husband and two childdren...kind of the "calm before the storm" if you will!

We will be having shrimp cocktail,  a beef tenderloin roast with au jus gravy and some horseradish cream on the side, sauteed mushrooms, garlic and onions, a baked potato and cheese casserole, roasted asparagus wrapped in bacon, frozen fruit salad, rolls.  For dessert we'll have gingerbread cake with bourbon sauce and whipped cream.

Everyone's choices sound yummy!

Christmas Day is spent at one of my daughter's home since she has the youngest grandchildren.  My DH and I hosted Christmas at Grandma & Grandpap's today.  We have our children, their spouses and our grandchildren.  We give them each a new special ornament for their tree each year, hang their stockings AND we eat!

Our brunch menu today:

Bloody Mary's

Coffee!!

Christmas Fruit Punch

PB Breakfast Bites

Spinach Dip Breadsticks

Bacon Wrapped Stuffed Dates

PB Breakfast Bites

Winter Fruit Salad w/Dressing

Sweet Italian Sausage

Glazed Bacon

Frittata

Pumpkin Cranberry Muffins

Banana Bread w/Whipped Cream Cheese

Corn Fritters

WHEW!  Gam-Gam tired! LOL.....LOVE cookin' for the family....glad I don't have to do it for all of them everyday!!

@Glittergal Could you share your vegan lasagna recipe?

I am trying to decide on Christmas Eve dinner & my daughter & her family are vegan, so they are a challange for the rest of us that eat like savages.

I would love to serve them something really good & thenI could fix a regular lasagna for the others.

Re: What's your main dish this year?

As DH and I will be 'home alone' this Christmas we have decided to do something different so we are having all fish Lobster  tails, King Crab legs, Shrimp.  I will make several tasty side dishes, hit crusty bread all washed down with champagne.  Dessert will be pears poached in red wine or mini mince pies with whipped cream plus cheese board with grapes.

We are really looking forward to our different meal!

It's been a Crown Roast of Pork the last two years, so I'm reverting to Beef Tenderloin with Roasted Shallots, Bacon and Port  this year.

Edited to fix a broken link.

Strive for respect instead of attention. It lasts longer.

we are doing an ethnic christmas dinner this year. we began doing this a few years ago instead of repeating the thanksgiving tradition. lots of steamed basmati rice, meat and herb stews, baked chicken with lemon and saffron,  savory yogurts, field green salad with candied pecans and blue cheese crumbles and raspberries, lentil soup.

on christmas eve we always have lots of seafood......crabcakes, maryland crab soup and cream of crab soup, fried clams, steamed shrimp, and a caesar salad.

dessert....assorted cookies, a sour cream cheesecake, a pound cake, and frozen strawberry squares.
